Wouldn’t say ‘very decent’ as it’s irrelevant what other sides have done. We’ve dropped more points than we’ve gained and that makes all the other sides points dropped as a wasted opportunity. Our worst league start at home since 1972.

Agree that Pogba and DvdB should have started - that bit was obvious. There is no place for averageness like McTominay and Rashford at this level.
But as for a back three, that's only justified because United only have two decent defenders available - Shaw and Maguire (as a reminder to the unwell of mind).
Problem with that is: where does the third defender come from and having a goalkeeper that needs extraordinary protection.
Matic could perhaps answer the former - and that is a big perhaps - but nowt can be done about the gk problem until coco is gone. So a back three is a no-no. Although I am an advocate of United playing that way, but they just don't have the right personnel
United's other big problem is what is in front of the very strong, creative and dynamic midfield options. Without a proper, genuine and reliable goal scorer there is no way ANY team can outscore the opposition - at least not regularly and consistently enough to mount a serious league campaign. Cup runs maybe, league form no way.

This ‘flip side’ doesn’t work. All teams need a proper pre-season and ours was particularly short. Not only that, but this season will and already is throwing up all sorts of anomalies; partly due to the disrupted preseasons, partly due to the lack of crowd and partly due to the evolution of VAR.
Recent score lines suggest things might start to normalise - results this weekend don’t look out of place compared to previous weekends where we’ve seen a ridiculous number of goals.
Basically, all bets are off and I can’t see much value in reading too much into things at the moment. The good news is we seem to be turning a corner and finding some form - hopefully it’s terminal!

And yet we had two league cup games we could have used for match fitness but played completely different sides and had a guy in Beeks who actually did have a proper pre season and was match fit hasn’t started a game for us yet bar the two league cup games. Very weird.
And yet we had two league cup games we could have used for match fitness
.....:
I have said this myself as well.
However unlike to PSG game and what Chelsea did yesterday I would use only 1 sitting midfielder instead of 2. I’d start 2 of VDB, Bruno and Pogba in both games.
————
Can’t see that happening, Ole seems to love this 4231 formation even though it’s very hit and miss as well as not exactly suited to the players we have good, he’ll switch to 352 when we’re clear underdogs. It’s been the theme pretty much throughout his tenure.

That was a monumentally massive mistake, IMO.
The club facked up very badly indeed with the EL run and subsequent post-season. (I won’t call it a preseason, because we didn’t have one.)
The players shouldn’t have been allowed to leave the country, and shouldn’t have been playing for their national sides.

2) We aren’t talking about excuses; we’re talking about reasons.
Our strikers are very poor and miss lot of chances. This was the case post lockdown as well. Imagine Haaland or similar level striker yesterday, we could have won by 2+ goals.
Apart from spurs result, our defense and midfield is shaping up fine, not top quality, but with proper coaching they can play well. If you ask me the priority for next transfer windows should be a top striker and succession plan for Matic.

Don’t agree with that at all. If you look we actually have very good strikers who scored plenty of goals. 60+ in fact last season and none of them played a full season. Albeit we need a top centre half in we also imo need to find the right balance in midfield. We are either far to open and cut through far too easily when we have Matic, Pogba and Bruno or on the other hand we are too defensive when the midfield 3 is McTominay, Fred and a Bruno which is also well and good when playing top teams such as PSG but in 70-80% Premier league games it won’t work. I still feel for as good as we are attacking wise in midfield we don’t have the quality defensively. Matic is the best out of McTomimay, Fred and him however he doesn’t have the legs to cover for Pogba and Bruno nor can he play every game. Fred and McTominay aren’t top quality. I would love next summer to see a top defensive mid come in. If that means one of Matic, Fred or both going then do be it.
Win next Sunday and we’re at worst 6 points from the top of the table with a game less played.
Given around preparation times we would have taken that.

This is exactly what Scholes said few days back. Martial/Rashford has conned everyone that we don't need another striker. Given a choice, I'm sure most of us would choose Haaland or striker of that quality over Martial/Rashford as #9.
I'm fully aware of the fact that Martial/Rashford scored ~20 league goals last season, they are nowhere near lethal enough to fill me with confidence.

Scholes isn't right all the time you know. Martial missed 3 months last season. Yes he isn't the perfect 9 however he still is very good. Good finisher and links the play up very well. Nearly 50 goals between him and Rashford where they combined missed around 5 months of the season is very good whether you like it or not

You have to take into account we had no pre season and less preparation than pretty much every one else.
........
It is really weird how most and it is most of our fans on here have totally ignored this.
Spurs for example had three friendlies, two Europey League qualifiers and a league game on us and wonder why they were sharper
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And yet we had two league cup games we could have used for match fitness but played completely different sides and had a guy in Beeks who actually did have a proper pre season and was match fit hasn’t started a game for us yet bar the two league cup games. Very weird.

However unlike to PSG game and what Chelsea did yesterday I would use only 1 sitting midfielder instead of 2. I’d start 2 of VDB, Bruno and Pogba in both games.

Can’t see that happening, Ole seems to love this 4231 formation even though it’s very hit and miss as well as not exactly suited to the players we have good, he’ll switch to 352 when we’re clear underdogs. It’s been the theme pretty much throughout his tenure.

Wouldn’t say ‘very decent’ as it’s irrelevant what other sides have done. We’ve dropped more points than we’ve gained and that makes all the other sides points dropped as a wasted opportunity. Our worst league start at home since 1972.
In the league it’s been poor. In the CL it’s been very good so far.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or on the flip side we came back from lockdown with a settled side - more settled than other teams bar Liverpool and should have had some sort of plan to keep that going this season but the management failed to mitigate the potential problems with a short pre season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That was a monumentally massive mistake, IMO.
The club facked up very badly indeed with the EL run and subsequent post-season. (I won’t call it a preseason, because we didn’t have one.)
The players shouldn’t have been allowed to leave the country, and shouldn’t have been playing for their national sides.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Another negative fan. Back Ole or just stop supporting the club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn’t say anything negative at all - the opposite if anything. Grow up.

Excuses, doesn’t matter what pre season we had. 7pts from 5 games is shocking. Do you really think we be better off if we had other 2 or 3 games under our belt.
