It’s not his fault, Tories are born with a part of their soul missing.

I’ve told you this before, but I’m not a Tory and have never voted for them. Unlike yourself I’m capable of forming my own opinions as opposed to my mind being controlled by a political party 👍
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Feeding hungry children shouldn’t even be a political debate. My moral compass informs my opinions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then stop making it a political debate 👍

Stop defending the toxic Tories starving minors.

STOP MAKING IT POLITICAL

The conservative government voted against the proposal because they were upset that a shadow minister had called one of them scvm. The conservative government turned it into a political issue.

Children shouldn't be going hungry, but the anger on this thread should be directed at the parents.

No matter what the situation all parents receive a raft of benefits, tax credits, child support etc.

Feeding their children should be priority number one, those that don't are not fit to parent imo.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

All parents do not receive a raft of benefits

Some dont even get family allowance

Can we all agree that we should ensure all hungry children get fed AND that parents receiving benefits should be made to spend it responsibly?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sounds good to me....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re assuming they don’t, why is your starting point to think the worst of people?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The starting point is feeding the kids

Then it’s about looking at why their parents can’t feed them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because you can’t buy food with f*cking fresh air.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No. It is usually paid for with money, either earned or given to you.

I was fortunate enough when I was at school to receive £5 a day for dinner money which was more than enough to cover me.

I understand not every child is so lucky, but let's take that for example, free school meals for me means £25 extra a week saved and in times like this, that £25 can go a long way.

Even if you're making your kids food for dinner at home, free school meals could mean that's one loaf of bread saved, a few packs of ham and cheese saved from the shopping list etc. Again, little things that can go a long way in this time.

Nobody is saying it's easy for parents and it's easy to say "just feed your kids first" when there is little money there to do so or when money is tight. But this action by Rashford is one little thing that can go a long way in supporting families through this difficult time, that's what people need to understand.

Free school meals is fine.. just take the cost from the child benefit budget, and give in the form of tokens.

This way at least we know the benefit is going to the children in need

All he is asking is that the government uses a minuscule amount of their budget (our money) to feed hungry kids. When billions have been spent on a dodgy track and trace system built by chums of the tories... I think it's a fair ask, and one that a lot of people are clearly behind..

Just the flag twitter gang, which I imagine OP is one of, seem to be against it.

They speak so proudly of britain first policy and looking after our own, but as long as the "our own" don't include poor brown skinned kids, right?

Of course kids shouldn't be getting meals when school is closed. Parents should have enough money to cover it. The question is, do parents have enough to cover it? If not, why not? And how can that be fixed?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We shouldn’t as a country be making sure kids get fed, in the middle of winter during a f*cking pandemic when hundreds of thousands of people have lost their jobs, livelihoods or are on reduced hours, salaries or incomes?

Actually they don’t want to feed, white, black OR brown kids.

They always say “we need to look after our own” but when it comes to it, it’s just another empty platitude.

20% of kids are overweight or obese. They should help the others.

Still a sad little troll I see, you’ve obviously been a huge failure in your life, no other explanation for your toxic hatred.

This topic is too emotive to have a serious discussion.

As a general principle no child should go hungry, that's a given

Where the discussion gets emotional is in the how. In the scheme of things we have a welfare state that makes provision. That HAS to be the starting point.

As I have previously highlighted I went frim a position of wealth to one of poverty for a shirt while. I had fee meds, free school dinners for the kids and money. Even got free milk for a baby and free nappies for a disabled child.

Unless this has changed a child should have the basic necessities at home
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Most people on this forum will only be a few months from the bread line. I felt it at the beginning of the year when my wife lost her job. We had very little help from the government (think it was £50 per week) and had to use our savings to cover things for a few months until she found work again.

The greatest achievement of neoliberalism, is to make people think they are loads different to those beneath them. The fact is that any of us can end up there with some poor luck and those chances are increased during a global pandemic.

This is why those advocating not helping, blaming the parents or saying social services should be involved are completely out of touch with their own vulnerabilities.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There are always exceptions to the rule so I will speak of my own experience.

I was a person on a nice salary. Couple of houses (paid) nice house etc. I didn't have no loans or anything like that.

Things changed and yeah I feel I got shafted by the govt. I had to use savings and sell up to make ends meet. I saw people who hadnt done a day's work in their lives getting "help" whereas I was fending for myself.

I could go on but you get the picture.

The thing was though the kids didn't go hungry. After sitting in an office for 30 years I was labouring for a builder, delivering pizza for a takeaway whatever it took.

Funnily enough that pizza place is always advertising for drivers. A full week will get you around 500 quid. A night will get you 70.

Guy across the road from me is a qualified welder. Has been on benefits for 15 years. Drives a bmw 5 series on a 13 plate and I give his kids food when doing a bbq etc. He gets deliveries from said pizza place. Tbh he could work.for them cash in hand and still get benefits but chooses not to.

He even breeds animals and gets paid a good wack. His pet dog cost 1500 quid. Yet he wants free meals for his kids cos the govt isnt doing enough

Yes this is just one example and my experience but the point is it's not as simple as throwing money at the issue

And I hate the tories
