Criticising someone for giving to charity
There is a good chance he is already donating to charities as well.

Pathetic article.

Have you donated £17.30?

If not, shut the eff up

How do you know if he doesnt give thousands to other charities also? Not everybody feels the need to broadcast their charity work to score brownie points, unlike Mesut Lolzil for example.

I think the poster's point is that the celebration of rich people giving to charity is often over egged and then used to justify the ridiculous salaries they earn. Ultimately, the donation from Bale is fairly meaningless from his point of view and a donation of £20 by an ordinary person is often a bigger deal.

That said, I'm not sure he asked for the story to be published so we shouldn'y use it to attack him personally

The mentality of criticising people for giving to charity always baffles me. My conclusion is that the problem isn't about whether they're giving to charity or how much but just sheer jealousy of how much they are earning to begin with

And how much of the 500k does he get?
Plus he gave something substantial. I don't see why he should be criticised.

Im sure the charity can do a lot more with Bales £15k compared to a £20 donation

Of course its generous.
It's what the charities can do with the money, not the comparative wealth of the person giving it.
Great gesture.

jealousy of how much someone earns is a weak argument from the rich. The high salaries of a minority cause direct and indirect impacts on the poor.

"from his point of view"

It's not the fact he's donated £15k, it's the fact it made the news because of who he is that's insulting.

He could literally put a 0 on the end and not go short for the month. Realistically, with what he's got in the bank already he could put a couple of 00s on the end and not notice at the fiscal year end. That could change so many people's lives..

Yes, donating £17.30 is a nice thing to do. But it's not news.

Not overly. I'm not remotely rich but can see that the nauseating complaints that whatever figure donated isn't enough is just sheer jealousy, and usually made by people who can afford to donate a nominal amount themselves but choose not to. To suggest that there isn't jealousy of how much high earners earn is nonsense

He doesn't have to do it, so yeah...............generous

Agree with this. And goes back to my point about celebrating the wealthy for this type of thing when it barely touches the sides as well as often being tax deductible.

Frankly if you earn that sort of money and don't give huge amounts to charity then there's something wrong with you.

But to reiterate, I'm not criticising Bale or any individual here. More the concept behind it and how society treats these gestures

Maybe he’s a tight cant? So yeah on this occasion he has been generous.

But so what if there is jealousy?! The vast majority of rich people were born rich and were always highly likely to stay rich. The richness of some people and the attempt to become or stay rich keeps others poorer and causes huge societal problems.

its better than nothing and he doesnt have to so fair play. same as anyone who gives the amount doesnt matter really.

This exactly. So as a society we should stop making a big deal about the AMOUNT of the donation when a rich person does it. Any donation from anyone is worthy of applause and should all be treated equally.

posted on 31/10/20

If people don't understand why it is made public, and why that is a massive benefit to the charity, then you are thick as fack.
