Keane for me over scholes every day of the week.
scholes was a more gifted player, but Keane brought far more to the team.... says a lot when you can say the guy left the club 15 years ago and has never really been replaced
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Neither has Scholes though. Or Giggs or Ronaldo. And that is why we have been crap.

Yeah good point, also shows how crap Gerrard was that he's been easily replaced by Henderson whereas we've spent hundreds of millions of pounds on players and still can't fill the gap left by Scholes or Keane.
At their best is tough to quantify, but Yaya had the best individual season out of all of them

like i say, scholes was a more gifted player, but Keane on the pitch meant everyone improved that extra 10% as he wouldnt stand for anything less

Scored quite a few free kicks though, not sure if they're allowed to count in 'stats' if penalties aren't.
Never know but Makelele might have score 15 free kicks if he took them, but wasn't their designated free kick taker.

No one said we were. I just added them to reinforce my point just in case you were dumb enough not to understand it with out them.

also as shown above, it looks like fabregas outperformed many as stats go.
Fabregas in his younger days was fookin brilliant tbf, think he generally gets underrated now as people start to only remember his return to the PL being a bit slower etc.

in which he was also great. But yeah i agree, no denying that if he had stayed and not gone barca for a couple years he'd probably be considered top 5 all time pl midfielder. Think he would have broken giggs assists most likely too
Yeh a younger Fabregas is in the best seasons for a midfielder for me too. Yaya pips all as he did everything that season, scored like a forward, assisted like an attacking mid, dribbled like a winger, put in a good shift defensively and played a huge amount of passes a game. Silva and Aguero really struggled with injuries that season as well, it was just ridiculous.
Being the poster boy of the arsenal side that didn't win anything probably hurt Fabregas more than it should have done
I'm pretty sure he was critiqued that year for not doing any defending edin, but agree with everything else, the way he picked the ball up like vieira and drove forward, with the end product of a lampard, was unreal. Joy to watch. That is up there for me as far as peak seasons go.

yup lebron james like situation, makes the team play as well as they can, and basically carry them, but because didn't get them over the line that's what people remember. (in the years lebron hasn't won). Rather than remember that arsenal would have been like 8th without him, they'll remember that they didn't win anything

also Robben back in the day...I think I was in the top 150 in the country in one comp...mainly down to putting him in very early
Michael Cox had this to say about scholes
"Scholes' peak was in 2010, his excellent form then tricked people into thinking he was that good his whole career
IMO he was far better in the deep role but only played it for about 15% of his career, he was a better deep midfielder at 36ish than he was an attacking midfielder at 24ish"
