Messi to Man City?

I doubt he would make an impact against English defences. English defending is the best in the world for me.

He still registered 46 goals/assists in the league alone last season. Anyone else in the world (bar Ronaldo as he's judged differently like Messi) that's an amazing season.

He's always needed quality around him to shine. MCFC are ideally suited for him really. He'll be a useful addition to their midfield.

Mind you, the same could be said of Chelsea and United, as all three have great midfield options for him to play alongside.

He would be coming to a much more competitive league though, and his dependence on the quality of those around him will be even more greatly exposed.

There is no point in him coming to the EPL. As long as Stoke aren't in it we will never know if he can handle a cold wet Tuesday night there.

Best in the world if they sign him, blah blah

What happened to Monday?

It'd be great to just see him at over here, even if it is for City.

Thats another issue. If Stoke were in the EPL and Messi hit a hattrick on a cold wet Tuesday night there. People like Hansaplast will retort with, "OK, but what about a Monday night?". Messi is in a no-win situation.

He'll do very well for a few seasons at City, i'm sure. As a football fan, I look forward to seeing it happen and how some of the not so subtle defenders try and take him on.

City wise, can only hope he disrupts the squad balance as he starts to decline. Though I guess City winning a few back to back leagues is the better of the two evils.

I hope so. Great to have him in the PL if only for a couple of seasons

KDB will be most affected by having Messi in the team. He won't afforded his free role. Messi will want every free kick, pen and will be the centre of the attention while KDB will have to drop into a more disciplined role in midfield or out wide.

I'm not sure it would work out that well. He won't like the likes of Ben Mee snapping him every week. If he was going to move to the PL, it should have been a few years ago.

Hope he does join then hope he flops.

I can't stand City, all these great players and nobody really cares they haven't managed to make the jump to the same level as the historic clubs in the imagination of supporters.

It's like yeah they are good but do we really care, they don't have enough fans to make an impact.

Although Messi has been the best player in the world for years he will be 34 next summer and will have to adapt his game (as Ronaldo has) accordingly.

Its been a pleasant surprise to me how little support Citys oil lottery win and subsequent success has gained them. I live over 60 miles from the nearest Prem club so its a good barometer of whos hot and whos not, round here City shirts are rarer than rocking horse $hit.

I guess its an attempt to address that.

Don't think that Messi could cope with a wet and windy midweek night at Old Trafford.

I dunno. I have the feeling PSG coax him with an offer to buy him a small country.

They are getting Messi because it's basically buying fans for a few seasons at least.

wouldn't it be cheaper to literally buy fans, just offer people £100 to support them? probably buy 2-3 million fans for the price of one messi.

Yeah and get totally shredded by opposition fans, the media, their own fans and not get to see Messi.

No brainer for me, they would get it all back in shirt sales.

would love to see it because i don't like messi and i don't like city. perfect match. there has to be a villain.

so, just to clarify, if, say, liverpool bought messi, it would be a historic club signing a great player, and a fitting reward for a loyal fanbase?

but if city sign messi it's a grubby attempt to curry favour with people, and a sleazy way of building their support?

and under no circumstances is it simply a top club buying a top player?

i'm sensing a trend, it's basically the pseudo-liverpool fans who would resent this, most other people would like to see it.
