Rumors about United brining CR7 back too. Could be interesting if both happen.
Foden ill be chuffed, finally gets a game after waiting for Silva to retire for years then an aging Messi turns up to play behind the forwards.

Yeah and get totally shredded by opposition fans, the media, their own fans and not get to see Messi.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
so, just to clarify, if, say, liverpool bought messi, it would be a historic club signing a great player, and a fitting reward for a loyal fanbase?
but if city sign messi it's a grubby attempt to curry favour with people, and a sleazy way of building their support?
and under no circumstances is it simply a top club buying a top player?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You've just made that bit up i never said anything about Liverpool.
Liverpool couldn't afford him and are already a historic club with loads of fans.
Manchester City are not a historic club, they've got barely any fans in comparison to the rest of the big 6. Signing Messi works twofold for them, it buys them fans and the history of having the best player to have ever played the game play for them. Simple stuff really.
Apart from the fact he will be joining City, how excited are people about the prospect of Messi coming to the PL? He’s not at his peak but is still very good and in a side with KDB those two could be devastating.
================
I don't really approve of glory hunters, and the fact they are re-writing history with bought - purchased titles, I would be overjoyed to see him play in the premier league!
Even at this age, he is great to watch and he can still showcase his techniques!
Bring him on!

in the sentence "if, say, liverpool bought messi", the word "say" can be read as meaning "by way of example".
So i haven't made anything up, i haven't claimed you said that, i've simply used it as an example. simple stuff really.
I bet people don't believe that I started the Messi Stoke Tuesday night thing back in the day. It was about 2009 I think. Good times.
Messi is still a top player but there is signs he is on the decline. Recently he had his longest run without a goal from play and has disappeared in some big games.
Still great obviously but don’t think he guarantees success anymore.
Don’t think it’s in anyway inevitable he joins City either.
I'd love to see him in the PL, but I'd have loved to have seen him 5 years ago as opposed to now.
With City having absolutely no fans maybe he could fill one of the 50,000 empty seats at the Etihad

You implied i wouldn't say the same if it was Liverpool and of course i wouldn't because they aren't Man City, they have loads of fans and history.
It was just bizarre as your statement previously was why don't they just buy fans instead of Messi and nobody mentioned Liverpool.
I'd love to see him play in England.
Even at 40, Messi could turn Maguire and Lindleoff inside out. If the likes of Demba Ba can bag goals against us, I'm sure Messi won't have any issues, even at 50 years old.
Mixed feelings. I would love to see Messi in the EPL, best player ever IMO. I've been lucky enough to see him live a couple of times and it would be great to do it a few more.
The downside is that this is the best Liverpool side I've seen in many, many year and the idea our closest rivals get the best player ever on a free is a bit galling!

I don't think so.
Maguire is a very average defender coming from Manchester United standards.
Messi is the best of the best and it's been shown many times before that you do not need speed to beat the great Harry Maguire.
Best player in the world if blah blah
Worst player if blah blah
Something about Dundee Utd

Hope he does join then hope he flops.
I can't stand City, all these great players and nobody really cares they haven't managed to make the jump to the same level as the historic clubs in the imagination of supporters.
It's like yeah they are good but do we really care, they don't have enough fans to make an impact.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
An impact on what? Our fanbase size? It has grown significantly already, particularly globally, and this absolutely would have an impact though. We’re fans though, not football owners seeing it as a business, so I’m not sure why anyone would remotely care about that anyway.

Nailed on that Lionel’s on his way to the Etihad now
Messi has gone past his peak now so not sure he makes them title favourites. Definitely improves them though there are still questions about whether he can do it on a cold, wet evening at Burnley.
