Maybe I’ll start one of those YouTube streams and get paid millions like PewdePie? 😂😂 if only!

Absolutely love it, mate! Graphics are unreal and I’m playing in performance mode (60fps), so can’t even imagine what cinematic mode is like, with all the bells and whistles!

Only thing I’m unsure of is the fact that there are no mid-level bonfires / archstones. I get that it makes the whole level a complete piece, but it can be annoying if you just wanna get back to the boss

Most levels have shortcuts you need to unlock so you can get back quicker

Played anything else much yet Rooney?

How are you getting on with Demons Souls?

Also any tips/tricks to someone getting a PS5 soon? Certain settings to make sure are on/off etc, anything you've noticed that's really surprised you, or disappointed you?

I had a blast on bugsnax, which was free with PS+ this month. Surprisingly fun! Nothing groundbreaking, of course, but a fun little game (similar to Astro's playroom).

I actually had to work last week (I know!!), followed by babysitting for the missus's young one over the weekend, so haven't progressed with Demon's as much as I'd have liked.

Finally got some time on it last night and beat the Old Hero and Lord of Storms / Storm Lord.

Then went to 2-2 and tried to take on Flamelurker which didn't go down well...I think I managed to swipe about 10% of his health off before succumbing and deciding I needed a good night's sleep!

In terms of tips, first thing you should do after signing in / syncing with your PS4 (remember to leave your PS4 plugged in and online if you want to do this!) is check the display settings. Depending on your TV config, some things (like HDR, superwhites, etc.) may be turned off.

As mentioned previously, if you put your PS5 in powersaving mode, it won't download games/updates or charge your controllers while in rest mode. I'd strongly recommend downloading pretty much all of the PS+ collection and putting the PS5 in performance mode so this can happen overnight / while you're out.

It seems that a lot of games at the moment offer you 'performance' or 'fidelity' modes. I would say that performance (locked 60fps) is the more tangible difference as a gamer. I didn't think I would be able to notice, however, after playing Demon's Souls in performance for a few hours, before trying cinematic / fidelity, the drop in framerate was quite obvious. Your eyes adjust in about 10 minutes, after which you wouldn't notice again, in honesty, but it is buttery smooth in 60fps.

Toying with the idea of getting AC: Valhalla, but I lost interest in the AC games after the Ezio trilogy, which I loved! I do love a good viking story, though.

Also may get DMC V remastered, which I missed last gen.

As you said on the other thread, though, Cyberpunk for next gen should be a great experience, so I'm excited for that!

Then there's FIFA 21, next gen version, but I think I have - for the first time in my life - decided to convert to PES, so I think i'm gonna wait for that

Cheers Rooney, good write ups.

Why would people choose the lesser option then, what are the plus sides to not running it in 60fps?

posted on 8/12/20

So, I think in fidelity mode, there are some enhanced graphical developments, such as ray tracing.

Essentially its a toss up between resolution / graphical intricacy and framerate. Personally, I think the framerate is more noticeable to the naked eye, but worth having a try on each and seeing for yourself.

I imagine this choice is only short-term as developers maximise the power of the console and do both simultaneously in later iterations.

Just beaten flamelurker with the help of some sticky white slime...

Told ya:

Spider-Man: Miles Morales now both 60FPS and ray tracing https://n4g.com/news/2391068/spider-man-miles-morales-update-1-007-adds-60-fps-ray-tracing-performance-mode

posted on 9/12/20

Demons Souls in Cinematic mode is simply 4k 30fps, there is no ray tracing in this game.

Performance is dynamic 4k, with 60fps, Personally this would be my choice. and the mode most people seem to choose.

posted on 9/12/20

Sorry performance is not dynamic 4k, it is 1440p 60fps.

great, after ive completed it

wish they supported 1440p

posted on 9/12/20

From my (albeit limited) understanding, PS5 doesn’t support 1440p as Sony consider that output irrelevant for a console as its exclusively used on PC monitors as opposed to TVs.

Pretty sure I read an article to that effect recently , anyway, but as I said, I am not 100% clued up on that sort of thing.

I can get my head around resolutions, frames, GPU / CPU comparisons, but the second they go into PC detail, I’m out 😂

So my ps5 was due to come next Wednesday on the 16th, but I got an email Tuesday saying it had been dispatched and then one the next morning saying it would arrive before 5pm

Been playing a few days now, first off as soon as I started using the dual sense it was just pure joy Going through a few levels on Astro was astonished at how incredibly different things can feel, just by the controller and the added sounds coming from it. Truly next gen.

Went onto Miles Morales though soon after as I wanted to get cracking. Great game, don’t think it will take a long time to complete but I’m enjoying it. Easy to get distracted just as it was in the Spiderman game, brilliant to look at.

Ended up going back on Astro the next time I loaded up, and then spent 3 hours on it and another go later on Platinum trophy attained, and a great into to the PS5.

Going to buy COD soon I think, interested in the campaign as I enjoy them, and just to mess about online with some friends.

Looking forward to Cyberpunk when the PS5 version is out and Res Evil next year whenever it’s out.

Lovely stuff, Mike!

I think I’m going to have to head back into Astro to get the plat, too. Download Bugsnax from the store whilst it’s still free.

I’m actually contemplating WRC8. I’m not really one for racers outside of Gran Turismo and Mario Kart, however, I think with the Dualsense a rally game will me awesome!

enjoyed the speed runs on astros playroom got up to rank 2000 on one, under 4000 overall aswell

So my last update was after a few days of receiving the PS5, I'd platinum completed Astros Playroom which was probably the best experience for that type of game since Mario 64 for me, I'd barely started Miles Morales, and I'd had a few games of Fifa.

After another week or so I've been stuck to Spiderman (no pun intended), only been managing to play for an hour or so at a time and I've focussed on hunting all the collectibles etc so far, and completing any side quests or crimes that happen whilst I'm en route to the next collectible on the map. Probably 75% through this side of the game, whilst only being 30% into the actual story.

Happy with how this has gone as it's allowed me to collect skill points and unlock various suits/mods etc to choose to keep switching when goign back to completing the main story.

The game looks fantastic in the main, although some bits of cut away scenes look pretty similar to last gen Spiderman.

The thing I'm already taking for granted and could no longer do without if I had to go back to a PS4 is the loading times, it's just phenomenal. Just switching the PS5 on from fully off to picking up where I left off is so easy, not to mention things like fast travelling from station to station is literally a couple of seconds.

posted on 21/12/20

It really is a great machine, and the dualsense is still fantastic.

Not sure whether to get COD or not yet, will probably wait until I complete Spiderman and had a bit of tmie playing Fifa (which I've still barely touched), and then hopefully Cyberpunk next gen version will be ready to go.

Just got the platinum trophy for Miles Morales.

Enjoyable one, didn’t feel like a grind even on the repetitive ‘find all these’ type trophies.

The fast travel option with the PS5 is ridiculously fast too which will make those keen on trophy hunting happy on bigger maps. One like RDR2. Literally a couple of seconds, no loading screen. Amazing.

Beat Demon’s Souls the other day (will update my boss rankings later) and really enjoyed it. I still think DS1, 3, and Bloodborne are better, but I really am a huge fan of anything FromSoft (and this Bluepoint remake) with the exception of DS2, which sucked.

I’d probs give it a 9/10 and perhaps the best launch title I’ve played across any gen.

Now playing Borderlands 3, the PS5 remaster for which was available on

...on the store during the Jan sale for £16 or so, which I thought was very good.

For those who haven’t played Borderlands before, the graphical fidelity won’t blow you away, but the animation style is interesting / different. It’s basically mad max / fallout with a lot more focus on FPS combat and humour.

It’s ridiculous, but a great deal of fun and I’d deffo recommend it
