I want to hear from Robbing. He’s such a fountain of knowledge about universal credit, it should be very quick and easy to answer my questions about it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you miss the part where I said I cba? It's not my job to elevate your ignorance is it? It's roughly £450 fwiw but it depends on whether you have the audacity to have a spare bedroom so your child can stay. You can quite easily do a calculation online.

UC doesnt take into account any other bills either but you have to be online to claim it. It also doesn't take into account such things as maintenance so in other words paying towards a child you can't claim for.

Google is your friend. I'm not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well well well Robbing. I know for a fact that you’re wrong. A former colleague of mine gets her rent of £825 per month paid for and gets £400 per month allowance on top of that. Every month, without question. I’ve seen the online paperwork.

“people like you are always so confidently wrong about subjects you have little to no knoweldge of it's nauseating.”

😂😂😂😂
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes you can get special dispensation, especially at the moment.

Do the calculation online and see what you get.

There was nothing special about it Robbing, she went through the all of the application documents with me online, it’s all stored for each user.

You’re either outdated or just plain wrong. Either way, maybe don’t talk like you’re some kind of fountain of knowledge, accuse someone else of being confidently wrong about subject they no little or nothing about when in fact you’re completely wrong.

You’re a pathetic, insulting little child. Jog on now son, laters.

Not even mentioned being sanctioned because you don't want to work night shifts in a pizza factory 15 miles away.

Proves my point. Never had it so good. My father would cycle 15 miles to work. Why? He had a family to take care of.

In the 1950s we spent a third of our income on food shopping, but in 1974 this had gone down to 24%. By 2016 food shopping accounted for just 10.5% of our income.

And then the UK joined the EEC which along with a globalised economy, (ie cheaper food from abroad) helped bring down national prices.

It also enabled more competition amongst supermarkets thus giving them more purchasing power.

Anyway, going off topic so will leave it there.

I had to travel 5 miles in a semi inflated, punctured dinghy down a main river, then crawl across a muddy field to get to work when I was 13. Luckily there was a spare change of clothes there. True story.

But EVEN I don't think children deserve to die to death from hunger.

60k debt when it includes the mortgage is peanuts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
60k is the *average* debt.

Low-income households over the last ten years (as the United Nations report highlighted) has seen a stark raise in consumer debt.

As more and more normal household purchases / bills/ food are being purchased via credit card (average interest @ 20%). Multiple charities, trade bodies, debt support groups across the country (including the FCA) have universally reached the same conclusions over the last number of years in regard to consumer debt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And that average is peanuts when a house is £200k.

Consumer debt is bad management. I know I was a victim 😭😭 of it for many years.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now I know you're wumming.

Afternoon all.

I worked in social exclusion for many years and overall I think to have starving children in the UK is a problem we shouldn't be seeing.

The discussion on this topic usually gets people riled up and having worked in the field you see and hear of some absolute horror stories.

However (and I say this knowing I will probably get stick) when you unpick the issue of a family struggling or children starving then the issue isn't as simple as lack of money or benefits.

Sure the provision for caviar and champagne is not there and it maybe simply beans on toast as a meal. But for those kids not getting even beans on toast for supper/tea/dinner there almost always "other" issues than simply money or benefits

Yeah ask the parents and they'll say they lost their job due to unforeseen circumstances and are now unable to afford all they need. But yeah parents should've predicted a pandemic years in advance.

Yes I’m lying to prove a point to a random stranger on the internet....

I think I’ll ignore your guarantees Robbing, you don’t have a clue. I’ve seen her paperwork and I know her personal circumstances, there is nothing out of the ordinary about either.

There will be a limit no doubt but it’s probably at a level whereby once you’re at that level you’re expected to have a certain amount of savings.

Perhaps the limit is affected by geography? Hence why you’re saying £450 which wasn’t true for my colleague in London. But hey, that’s just an idea from silly me who doesn’t know anything.

Either way, I’m not interested in talking to you anymore, you’re a rude prck who doesn’t even know what he’s talking about but acts like he’s the Alex Ferguson of claiming benefits.

Just to add that some of the people who suffer them most are not the ones are on benefits, although I'm not saying none of these suffer.

The biggest "losers" are often those who are just above thresholds and those in things like zero hours contracts etc.

Working people who make just enough money that makes them ineligible for certain benefits often end up suffering more than those not working

Seems to be a lack of appreciation that family situations/dynamics can change due to a multitude of external circumstances.

The simple fact is that millions of families struggle to make ends meet. Sometimes due to no fault of their own.

I recall reading a few comments condemning a parent for having a smart phone but at the same time struggling to make ends meet.

Owning a mobile phone is not a luxury but a modern day essential.

This is the biggest problem. It’s tragic that many people will be better off not working and being on benefits (and some people actually do this). But, contrary to the numbnuts that complain it’s as the benefits are too much, it’s the scandalous way employers can exploit people and not pay them a living wage.

No that's the limit but you can get dispensation.

I'm assuming she's got a fair few kids or something.

You could quite easily do the assessment online though instead of talking bollox. From what I can see your stance is on some mysterious paperwork so do it as a single person if you want a real horror story.

I feel you're rude and some of the stuff you've written is ignorant, bigoted and offensive so at least we're on the same page about that.

In my experience, through the work I used to do and people I have known, it is an absolute ludicrous state of affairs that a person getting a payrise of a few pence an hour can be in tears because they will now be worse off.

Not sure if it's the case as I write this but one study showed that there was a lot of working folk in council houses. They paid all or most of the rent themselves (dependent on what the work and wages were). When councils changed the housing system to bands it made it difficult for that group of up coming people to get a council house.

Basically people working but in certain bands/brackets have been most affected by changes than unemployed

Unlucky mate, she’s single and no kids.

I don’t need to do the bloody assessment, I’ve seen hers. Even if I did, and I confirmed that my mortgage was covered up to an amount higher than £450.00, you wouldn’t believe me anyway because you won’t believe me about my former colleague; so why on earth would I waste more time on someone like you?

I’ve only been rude to you after you were rude to me; not that difficult to understand even for you.

You think my calculations were wrong earlier and they weren’t. Don’t worry though; everyone is wrong on occasion.
