It has sounded as though the defence has been a bit suspect all game.

Guerrero finishing looks like it will cost us

Yep. Story of many games this season. We’ve created a fair bit but either Grabban missed chances or just wasn’t fit

No marking for the second goal.

Could have been three there

2-0 is not a fair reflection of the game, really.

Oh well, we’re a work in progress and today was a lesson in finishing.

Wow what happened there????

Get well soon Joe Worrall

Much better for 85 minutes but need to finish when we are clean through on goal.

posted on 21/11/20

It’s gonna be a long season and we just don’t have the fire power of the top sides. Must be annoying for Lolley and Knockaert creating all these chances and no one to finish them

Figuredo and Guerrero should not start the next game.

Guerrero certainly shouldn't

Far too many players under performing, Knockaert, Freeman, Figs, Christie, Ribs to name a few. Midfield looks totally disjointed, Taylor is the only bright light. Colback looks like a booking waiting to happen every game. Defending remains statuesque, Christie in particular keeps getting caught ‘ball watching’. I know it’s fairly on the season still, but we look like we will be in a relegation scrap. I would have hoped Hughton would have made a difference by now, but tbh we are not looking any better than under Sabri. The next half dozen games, which are extremely tough, may well define our WHOLE season, and I for one am not feeling very confident. Hughton seems very reluctant to use subs, we had five at our disposal, and made only one in 90 mins, if it ain’t working change it, don’t just sit and watch. I can’t see us getting double figures points wise from the next 6 games, which may leave us in a very precarious position.

I think we’re a lot better than under Sabri- at least we’re attacking more and also not conceding 97th minute goals

It’s still early days for him - he’ll get it right in the end

I definitely think Figs should be dropped now and start Dawson instead

Let’s not forget who Barnsley have turned over recently. Watford, Bristol,City, they won’t be fighting relegation.
We, on the other hand have improved and it’s unfair to make a direct comparison to Lamouchi’s reign, we’re a bit better than that and showing improvement.

Agree Barnsley are no mugs, but I am not seeing the improvement I expected by now. Their keeper made ONE save second half, yes their first goal was a great strike but we shouldn’t have given the opportunity, second goal yet again we have sufficient numbers to defend but no one goes to the player, they just stand and watch. Forget Dawson, doubt you will see him play in the first team again, but agree Figs is a liability, howver it will also take time for Worrall to get match fit. I want Hughton to succeed but the pressure is going to start mounting soon, and we all know how twitchy the Greek can be.

Good evening Rev, and a spot on match preview. Yeah, we have much better players than Barnsley, on paper that is. But significantly, we have Chris Hughton. I really hope he’s been able to further improve us a team during the International break. We’ll see tomorrow I guess.

I thought our attacking play was much improved today, not the finished article by any means, but much more inventive than under Lamouchi.
Joe Lolley played well in spells and once Knockaert finds his game our attack will become much more threatening. It’s going to take a little bit more time.

You were away to one of the form sides in the league.

NEP described Barnsley as a ‘bogey team’ to us. Them and about 10 others it seems.

I have given due credit to Barnsley in my previous post’s if you’d care to look through them.
I said that Barnsley were no mugs turning over Watford & Bristol City. I hope Barnsley spank a few more sides.

Easy to underestimate Barnsley, but even so we should not have lost that. It's that old problem game management; our first substitution at 70 minutes and 0-0 should have been a defensive one to make sure we didn't concede. A point today would have been acceptable. Among other things we need to learn is how to be ruthless in both boxes; be more physical; let the opposition know we are there. The defence waits for things to happen and then reacts (often too late ) rather than stopping things happening in the first place.
If we start with two strikers we should have had a striker on the bench instead of one of the three full backs.
