Shearer summed it up well on MOTD, we let City have the ball and we pushed you out to the wings letting you get crosses in where out 2 CBs dealt with everything comfortably.
Maybe with a target man like Dzeko it might've been different b

City lost because of 2 defensive mistakes. The first one is a school boy error. Two very expensive centre backs terrified by Kane decide before even the pass is played to go and mark him, leaving a gap behind them? This is what I said yesterday in my article match watch, that will happen. Kane will drag them out of the positions and they'll leave gaps behind him!

Having possession isn't important

It's what you do with it!

You haven't got

Sane
D Silva
V kompany
Aguero was missing
Sterling on the bench most of game

That's why u lost.....your world class players have left or were on the bench

City have never been clinical under Pep, they just used to create enough chances to batter the opposition mainly through David Silva, not Kevin Debruyne.

The pre-assist is important in Pep football and right now nobody in the team can dish out that pass. Maybe Gundagon but even then it’s still not good enough. But Pep still created the best club side ever with Pedro and an ageing David Villa next to Messi.

So the problem is not the finishing, it’s the quality of chance being created.

If the Messi rumors are true then it may just solve this issue as I have said for the longest time players like Sterling are simply not high level CL standard and they sadly rely on him too much now. Sterlings best work is in the box, not outside it.

Without Silva and Sane to create easy chances Sterling is as good as Walcott right now.

Having possession is half the job. You won’t win anything if you play the entire season with less possession than the opposition

You played like Arsenal under Arteta yesterday, which is good to beat teams like City and Liverpool but you will Never win a 38 game league playing like that, I can bet my life on that.

There is a specific balance and only Liverpool have it right now. But even then Liverpool still don’t Create enough chances to be trully dominant which is why they bought Thiago.

I just don’t think Thiago is as good as people think though.

I think it's as much to do with individuals not playing well as it is Pep.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is, of course, nonsense.

Often said when teams are struggling but apart from those few occasions where players clearly stop playing for their manager, the buck always stops with the manager.

In this case, surely the big question is why Pep can’t seem to get his team defending well despite all that money he’s thrown at it.

Where did I say you’d said that, GT?

Dear me, you’ve been in a bad mood for days now. Hope you’re okay.

City are miles away from 2 seasons ago. Lost their intensity and world class players...I think city made a mistake sticking with pep.

Pep has a shelf life due to the intensity he has....players are beyond that now

Oh dear, bad mood and delusional.

Hope you manage to resolve whatever issues you have.

Let me know if you want to reread my post, apologies for your error and continue with the discussion. I’m willing to accept that and move on, as always.

City need to score first to win games. Team is lacking character to overturn an early goal which only 2 years ago was unheard off. Opposition score first and then just sit back compact and let City pass to death with the only hope is some magic from KDB.

Maybe they do need Messi after all

It didn’t say that at all but if you’re continue to dig in rather than admit your error then sadly the debate will need to stop here.

Hope your day improves.

I think they scored first in 7 of the 9 games they lost last season.

They Simply aren’t controlling games aswell as they used to. Even the pointless possession stats have dropped and to be honest this happened even last season when Silva was still playing.

They are in transition and I imagine Pep is working on new relationships to get them dominating possession and moving the ball faster. I can’t help but imagine Bernardo Silva is this player but he just doesn’t seem to be at it. Obviously doesn’t have the brains of the OG Silva but has the talent

Mahrez starting, Foden on the bench and Bernardo on the wrong wing.

The writing was on the wall as soon as I saw the teamsheet.

City used to have 7 to 8 class players and a few decent ones. Now they have 7 to 8 decent ones and only 2 or 3 class ones.

Poor recruitment. Pep has barely got one signing right. All your top players were already at the club when he joined.

Which 7-8 class players? Didn’t they win the league by 100 points with delph at left back and ótamendi and stones in defence!

It’s the same argument at Barca where people pretend that Pep oversaw the greatest squad in history yet he the truth is he had Valdez, mascherano, abidal and pique in defence and he had Pedro and an old David villa next to Messi.

They key is not having a team full of world class players as some will lead you to believe, pep is not Sven or Ancelotti who has coached some of the most talented squads on the planet, it’s all got to do with players getting the fundamentals of how he wants them to play.

Even if u gave Pep the Milan team Ancelotti coached or the Real Madrid Galaticos Pep could still struggle if they don’t play the way he wants them to play

Pretty predictable result given where we are at right now, actually it played out very similarly to our game there last season. 66% possession and 22 shots to their 4, but our possession and the vast majority of attempts on goal were none threatening.

We’re definitely missing that extra gear in the final third that David Silva would be able to shift us in to, feels like KDB is being over burdened to make something happen where in past seasons the responsibility was shared more evenly.

Jesus is a big one to keep an eye on at the moment for me. He’s looked brilliant with the balls at times, but he squandered a couple of decent chances yesterday, actually completely missing the target on the two I’m thinking of, adding to that the header he missed to take us 2-1 up against Liverpool was an easier opportunity to score than De Bruynes penalty.

I can accept another season of transition given the big names who have left over recent years, the football and even the games we lose at the moment are usually an entertaining watch. But I think he’s going to need to do better than some domestic cup silverware in the next two.

I’d disagree with the opening point - it’s the change in tactics and style that is the issue rather than the lack of it.

Our system two years ago worked a lot better. I get why he’s tried to change it but it isn’t working - there’s too big a gaps and we aren’t creating the spaces in the same areas we used to.

I do think it’s potentially just a few tweaks though - we actually played really well in the first half. Doesn’t help that we’ve got a few players really out of form as well.

Sterling did nothing when he came on. He has been fairly average this season. I also think that City need to play either Bernardo or Foden, regularly in midfield, in order to get some consistency into the team and help out KDB. We are missing David Silva’s skill in opening up a defence. My main criticism is with Mahrez, he has been pretty poor this season, a bad buy for the money he cost.
