Has Jose Won Over The Spurs Fans?

When Hell freezes over would be my reply.

Over to you.

We said at the start though, didn’t we, that maybe Spurs fans would take his style if it brought them a trophy.

I wouldn’t blame those who did.

Early days though of course.

Certainly winning me over. I thought he was finished at this level and pre covid we were utterly woeful.

However, with the new signings and some time getting used to his system I can see exactly what he's doing and he has been doing it very well.

There were games last season like leipzig, Chelsea, even the city game before the red where we were just sitting back and offering nothing going forward.

The city game last season and yesterday are a good illustration of how we have progressed. Last year it was awful finishing from city and a red card which won it. Yesterday we kept them from having a decent chance until the 90th minute and looked very dangerous on the counter.

His style is obviously not ideal but as long as we're carrying a genuine threat on the counter then we're not a bad watch.

Won’t win me over until he does better than Poch. Top 3 and a trophy will do it.

Hate the football we play, it’s horrible and stressful to watch. But it’s working. I still don’t think it’s sustainable, the next 5 games will tell us.

The 16/17 season was the peak of Poch's reign with us, superb free flowing attacking football playing football in the Spurs' tradition. We had magnificent home season, p19,w17,d2 and we were top of the Prem for 13 minutes, finished 3rd and won nothing.

I must admit I was one of those who was against Jose's appointment, ex Man U, Chelsea has been etc
But my view has changed. I see a bit of steel in this side, grinding out wins - Brighton, West Brom, Burnley and yes City yesterday.

It was a Jose masterclass yesterday, set the team up perfectly. And top of the league over night!!!!

Didn’t have to win me over. Was happy to give him time to prove himself and let him do his stuff.
That’s the way this game works and if any fan unable to comprehend that then more fool them.

TBF in that City game last year we had everybody injured and Bergwijn scored on his debut. Whereas yesterday we more or less had a full squad to choose from.

To be honest I was getting fed up with the style over substance sides, yes we were great to watch under Poch but it often felt like it was all for nothing ultimately. I enjoyed watching the individual games, but it was always with that horrible feeling that we will come up short.

Under Jose I fully expect us to win at least 1 trophy this year, it’s total conviction, he will deliver something. As such watching us play on the counter does not grate with me - we are still the second highest scorers in the league and we have conceded once in 4 games and even that 1 goal shouldn’t have counted.

Improved the team which hadn’t won away in almost a year and in free fall. You can’t expect a new manager to come in and off the bat start piling up the trophies with a team that hasn’t won anything for years.
Will take a couple more windows to even get the team he wants.
Am sure Liverpool where glad to give klopp time to build his team. Some of our fans would been calling for his head

Finally the over thing I love about Jose is the Jedi mind tricks, he had foocked Pep before the game had even started by getting in his head about Sterling - watch Raheem be available mid week now.

Nobody’s calling for his head, but if we don’t have silverware by the end of this season it will be fair enough to do so.

We shouldn’t have to endure this type of football for nothing.

Jose is a serial winner. So you have to say if he gets you second in a two horse race then he has improved on previous managers efforts.

I think it’s a really niche skill that 99% of managers do badly, however Jose is the master. Absolutely no way was Raheem playing yesterday after Jose spoke up and Southgate will be thinking twice about picking Kane in a meaningless friendly in March.

Not really as we finished second under Poch and made a CL final, and a League cup final as well as multiple FA cup semis. Poch unfortunately could never quite get us over the line and close the deal - that’s why Jose was brought in and he will be judged on trophies, there is no escaping that for him.

Was happy with his appointment so didn’t need winning over.

He’s done excellently since post-lockdown in July. 18 PL games played - won 11, drawn 5, lost 2. Best record in the league during that period. Maybe our players are better behind-closed doors!

I had a feeling he would do well in his second season but it's still early days yet. He needs to win a trophy for it to be a success. Nobody can say he doesn't have a very good squad to work with or that he hasn't been supported in the transfer window.

Let’s not forget the football was awful in Poch’s last few months too.
Mourinho was just clever enough to realise When he first came in the midfield was not Physical or had the right flair to play the open football Poch craved and he had to change the style. I really hope Poch did the same but we were open time and time and we struggled . The long injury list didn’t help Mourinhos cause either but the haters lapped up our struggles.

Like I said happy to give him time and am sure the football will also improve.

If Jose won the league this season where would you guys rank him in your all time managers?

posted on 22/11/20

As much as I hated his appointment I'm really starting to like his approach.

Admittedly the football can be a bit dross, but we're winning ugly, and getting the points, that's all that matters.

I only saw the second half of your game but you seemed quite good. Not peak Poch obviously but you were more than in control of a lot of the play. City just played into your hands.

Dier is a huge success story at CB. Should really play there for England

Complete rubbish. Pep didn’t start Sterling because Jose said he would. Laughable
