Didn’t have to win me over. Was happy to give him time to prove himself and let him do his stuff.
That’s the way this game works and if any fan unable to comprehend that then more fool them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And what’s he proved?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Improved the team which hadn’t won away in almost a year and in free fall. You can’t expect a new manager to come in and off the bat start piling up the trophies with a team that hasn’t won anything for years.
Will take a couple more windows to even get the team he wants.
Am sure Liverpool where glad to give klopp time to build his team. Some of our fans would been calling for his head
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nobody’s calling for his head, but if we don’t have silverware by the end of this season it will be fair enough to do so.

We shouldn’t have to endure this type of football for nothing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Let’s not forget the football was awful in Poch’s last few months too.
Mourinho was just clever enough to realise When he first came in the midfield was not Physical or had the right flair to play the open football Poch craved and he had to change the style. I really hope Poch did the same but we were open time and time and we struggled . The long injury list didn’t help Mourinhos cause either but the haters lapped up our struggles.

Like I said happy to give him time and am sure the football will also improve.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Completely agree about the haters. Jose’s always one defeat away from being Jose-out - the meaningless Antwerp defeat was a great example. When he took over we were in disarray, then his injury list was as bad as its ever been. But the haters were out in force, pretty appalling really, showing a real lack of support.

There’s no co-incidence thats since having a fully fit squad in July, he’s got the best record in the league over that 18 game period. His detractors will also say that its due to Kane/Son, but the best coaches simply know how to get the best out of their players and Mourinho takes full credit for giving Kane/Son this platform.

It’s still early days, but the positive signs are there - only 2 defeats in the last 18 PL games. There’s every chance we’ll drop away, but if we get Top-4, then he’s got us back to where we once were and deserves to continue his project well into 21/22.

Won’t win me over until he does better than Poch. Top 3 and a trophy will do it.

Hate the football we play, it’s horrible and stressful to watch. But it’s working. I still don’t think it’s sustainable, the next 5 games will tell us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Same.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah. The thing is, if he wins something this year (which he absolutely might), history tells us that the steep decline will begin soon afterwards. I just find it hard not to look beyond the immediate short term with Mourinho, and it leaves me always feeling deeply sceptical.

Besides, he's been fully backed by Levy - given everything he wanted - so the expectations are that much higher. It's still very early. Obviously this season has been promising when viewed as a whole, but dig a little deeper and there's been some horrific performances and poor results too.

I don't think the schism in the fan base would exist if there weren't a genuine underlying reason for it.

Expectations are too high. We’re top of the league, yet there’s been horrific performances? Firstly, we’re top of the league! Secondly, what do you expect? We’re Tottenham, not Bayern Munich. Actually thinking about Bayern, remember we lost 7-1 to them? Performances were about as horrific as we’d seen for the best part of a decade about a year ago at the end of Poch’s reign.

Very few teams play this mythical, high tempo, fantasy football that Spurs fans seem to crave, we’re certainly not going to be one of them with our midfield. Results should be our no.1 priority right now, and Jose’s doing a great job in achieving that so far this season.

What is it you want then? Top of the league whilst playing total football? In other words, you want us to be Bayern Munich. We’re Tottenham ffs, like I said, expectations are too high.

We can’t have what I want until Jose is gone and we have an exciting progressive manager back in charge.

Until then I’ll just have to endure this period and hope that at least there’s some silverware to show for it.

Well, ask Chelsea fans about progressive coaching - would they have preferred to keep Sarri and his highly progressive Sarriball tactics, or would they have preferred league titles under Conte and Mourinho’s more pragmatic approach?

Would Leicester fans prefer exciting football under Rodgers, finishing in all likelihood 4th or 5th, or would they prefer a league title under Ranieri’s more basic gameplan?

Everton tried progressive coaches in Martinez and Silva, but it required a proper manager like Ancelotti to repair all the damage. We did the same under AVB and it required Redknapp to sort things out. There’s a place for a more pragmatic approach to football and quite often, it reaps rewards - Mancini, Conte and Ranieri are all in the Jose mould and have all won the league title. Progressive managers are often the nearly-men of football, like Poch, so it depends what you want I guess.

Well thats what he’s trying to do, hence why we’re top of the league, top of the Europa and in the q/f of the league cup. He literally can’t have done any more so far this season - results wise anyway. Unless you expect perfection, which are clearly not the standard imposed on any other coach we’ve had.

I’d argue that this season he’s been anything but egotistical. Even yesterday, he praised Pochettino in his post-match interview. He seems relaxed, incredibly professional, and setting really high standards in the club. He’s literally not done anything to p!ss of the fanbase since being here, so why so much dislike?!
