Spurs are doing well and cab win the league. My prediction is that they won't though. In my blunt view of thing things to squad cost I think Spurs have maybe the 6 th most expensive squad, and so I would consider it a success if they got CL qualification and a failure if they missed out on Europe altogether. If they can add a domestic cup on top of getting CL then that would be a nice cherry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Squad cost doesn't equate to best squad of players.

As it stands Spurs have some of the best players in their positions in the league. The league doesn't lie. Spurs ste top despite dropping four silly points. They have as good a chance as any of lifting the title.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I never said it did. It is, however, a very good indicator. Why do you think United, City, and Chelsea are comfortably the most successful teams in the league over the last 15 years? It is because they have been able to spend money that no other side (not Liverpool, Spurs, or Arsenal) have been able to get close to.

Lol whoever is our manager being so long without one is rightly under pressure to win a trophy let alone a manager who has won one everywhere he has been. Such a pathetic go to defence of Jose.

Things looking good now but we need to see how we do at the end of the season. If we don't win anything then Mourinho has failed and he will have especially failed given the squad we have and the other big teams struggling with injuries and form. Then we have the possibility of losing players and Mourinho entering into his third season, which usually doesn't end so well.

The proof in the pudding will absolutely be in winning something. Being top and looking good in November does not matter greatly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So Jose has to win something, but Poch didn`t have to. Got you. I am sure Jose will win trophies, but I didn`t see the same demands put on Poch after just one season, in fact I didn`t see any demands put on Poch after five seasons.

If Mourinho has failed after say one full season if he doesn`t win a trophy, then surely you would place Poch in the same bracket as a failure, would you not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who said Poch didn't have to win anything? Poch in his defence wasn't properly backed by Levy. When he was given some backing it was too late because the team was already suffering. And Poch was the one that had to establish us as a top 4 club in the first place. The dynamic of the club has changed from since Poch first took over and when Mourinho first took over.

Mourinho has been well backed (maybe more so in one window than any other manager under Levy) and given his rep as a winner it stands to reason he needs to deliver on the trophy winning front.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Poch was backed with plenty of money, just didn't spend it wisely I am not having that old chestnut again. He purchased some awful players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to give him a fair judgment then you need to go through that old chestnut again I'm afraid.

Poch went a year without spending money when he needed new players most.

Imagine if they did that to Jose. He’d be moaning about it every single interview.

It couldnt have got much worse when you look at the situation when Poch left, a neglected stale squad that had lost top class players who were not replaced. The natural evolution of the squad and a couple of years of neglect meant that a rebuild was needed, Poch and Levy knew this.

Whether Poch would have turned us around after the same investment we will never know, but pretty much anybody could have improved us after so many squad weaknesses were addressed.

The signs are currently good and time will tell how far Mourinho can take us, I will judge things at the end of the season, the main thing is we can see improvement, particularly at the back.

But you along with others cried like a big baby when Poch left, so you do support managers, just not the current one.

I love the way the ante Joe posters, who wanted him gone from day one, are now trying to save face, by saying that supporting Jose is now a cult.

Honestly it is pathetic.

Don, I see the ante Jose brigade are out in full force today.

Apparently supporting Jose and the team is like a cult.

They know they have been made to look like completely clueless idiots, so they are now trying to make out that those that support Jose are a cult. You couldn`t make it up.

LMAO, so it was fine when results weren't great for people to complain endlessly about Mourinho and whine and say they wanted him to be fired when he had been tottenham manager for less than a year, but now that results are good and the team is doing well it's not OK for people to praise Mourinho?

Wahl, they are all acting like big babies, not man enough to admit they are wrong, none of them have it in them to admit Jose is doing an absolutely fantastic job at Spurs.

How can you not want to want a serial trophy winning manager to join your club, over a manager who won SFA.

posted on 22/11/20

Sandude, I think it's because he used to manage Chelsea. And if that's the reason, they really need to grow up and get over it. Mourinho's at Tottenham now, doing a great job and that's all there is to it.

Money spent is a false indicator when you consider Son and Kane are probably worth £200m combined and cost us £22m.

I did tell all you doubters but you never listened. I said all along, judge Jose Mourinho this season when he has a full summer of his own purchases, plus a full year to properly work with the team and implement his ideas and mentality.

Fast forward this and look where we are ?
--------------------

Only 3 months into the full year you've said all along that he has to be given before he can be judged. Maybe listen to your own advice.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sure and Liverpool got Robertson, Milner, Gomez, Matip, Adrian, TAA for a combined £11 million give or take. Salah cost about £35 million and would be worth £100 million +.

United didn't pay anything for Cavani, or Sanchez (when he was there).

All teams have players they got much cheaper than they are worth and most will have paid over the odds for some players too. It still doesn't change that teams who spend more tend to do better overall.

A little early in the season to start crowing, Don.
But about cost......
anyone know what this lot cost......
Lo Celso (good),
Ndombele (max price),
The wrong Fernandes,
Bergwijn(fast, but not as fast as Walker),
Hojbjerg (an improving asset),
Bale (an asset TBD),
Reguilon (best LB we've had in ages),
Doherty (not very good El Cheapo),
Rodon (unknown quantity), and
Joe Hart (an okay keeper).
