The fact that we had 20 shots in itself indicates that 4-2-3-1 makes us far more attacking. It's no big surprise that we looked disorganised at the back as all 4 defenders were in unfamiliar roles. If Nuno works on it on the training ground I'm sure that we will become far more compact and solid in that formation.
I agree with what others have said in that 3-4-3 is what got us to where we are but having 4-2-3-1 as an option for certain games is a useful weapon to have in the armoury.
I disagree totally with getting rid of Traore. Actually, I thought he did ok last night and caused more problems for them than either Podence or Jimenez. To compare Traore to Podence or Neto is nonsense really as Traore is a unique talent and brings something to the table that no-one else does. In my opinion it would be a big mistake to sell him as it was with Doherty who I think we are missing massively.
I do agree though that Adama needs to work on his off the ball positioning and find space to make himself more available to receive the ball. Doc was brilliant at it, Adama is not. I would also like to see him getting into the box when the ball is coming in from the opposite side, at the moment he tends to be a spectator in those situations.
The thing is, we are never going to know whether Coady can play in a back 4 unless we try it. He played in a back 4 once for England after a sending off and looked good, albeit in a less than challenging game.
People say he can't do it, but you never know; he might just surprise them. Just like he did when moving into a back three.
The potential problem I foresee is that Coady struggles when a big, physical striker pushes onto him and he can get bullied. I'm thinking Antonio, Mitrovic, Woods, etc.
This might be more of a problem when playing in a four, as he wouldn't get the protection he currently gets in the middle of a five?
Like has already been said though, only one way to find out!
I do think playing as a kind of sweeper in a back three is a very different role to a central defender in a back four. I disagree that playing Coady in a back four is the only way to find out. The way to find out is on the training ground and Nuno will need to make a call on what he sees there.
It’s a transition Coady might be able to make because he has improved no end as a defender over the last couple of years, whereas when he first moved to defence he was just tidying things up and distributing the ball from the back
I thought Traore looked far more dangerous as one of the three behind Jimenez. You cant overload on him with Raul, Podence and Neto sniffing around the box as well. I've no doubts that Coady could play in a back four if required.
Government announced yesterday that small crowds can be allowed at sporting events dependant on the level of COVID cases in the locality. Sadly for Wolves the area has plenty of cases at the moment so the Molineux doors are not likely to be opened soon. We will find out on Thursday which category Wolverhampton falls into. But it’s a step in the right direction and with vaccines imminent I am feeling confident of seeing some live football this season
They said the tiers were going to be more severe this time, but if anything they look more lenient.

I think the midfield looked better with the three behind Jimenez. They had more options for forward passes and all of sudden we saw more positive play from them.
Yes that was noticeable as well Tam. Moutinho's pass for Jimenez in particular prior top the goal was a good example.
I was surprised to see that where I live in Stafford now has one of the highest infection rates in the country after having had one of the lowest throughout most of the pandemic. No idea what's behind that. My lad had a couple of days off school with a stomach bug last week which coincided with one of his class mates testing positive, so since he went back last Thursday he's had one to one teaching in some classes whilst the rest of the class isolate at home. He's not happy !
Ive read a lot about people being not bothered about going to games if only 4000 are allowed in and they canty go to the pub and they cant sing and this and that...personally I go primarily for the football, the atmosphere, who you go with, having a pre-match bevvy and a pie, yes all part of the day but not the main event. I cant wait to get back in the ground get back to some form of normality. In fact there was a time in my Wolves supporting experience when 4000 wasnt a bad turnout. Remember going on the bus in to Wolvo on a match day not long after starting work, buying a load of clobber before a match and taking up three seats in the John Ireland between me and my shopping bags.
I liked us going forward last night, especially the last 25 mins with 4-2-3-1 Even Moutinho looked like he knew what a forward pass looked like.
Don't see Nuno changing from a back three unfortunately, or at least not this season though surely we will see it when chasing a goal, or at least we should see it when chasing a goal. Always frustrates me when we are trailing and just change like for like with the first sub. Be good to see the first sub being the removal of a defender for more attacking impetus.
The only reason we played with a back four was because Coady wasn't available. Simple really. Nuno has always stated that he wants a back three and that's what we'll get next time out. He obviously didn't feel comfortable playing anyone in Coady's role and I would imagine he tried it on the training ground and wasn't happy.
Ait-Nouri is not experienced as a LB and I can see Nuno playing Marcal against Arsenal in a more familiar 3-4-3 or 3-5-2. Plus, Semedo looks far more comfortable and effective in a wing back role.
Are you changing your tune now DJ. You've always maintained quite strongly that Coady can't play in a back 4.
I don't think anyone is expecting Nuno to change to a back four Wolfie. Just more hope than anything that he will at least utilise it on occasion when needs must.
I honestly hope we don't go into Sunday giving Arsenal too much respect, they are there for the taking and we need to be going at that game as a game we absolutely should win.
I don't understand why quite a few fans seem to think we need to play Marcal. The whole issue we have is that we are not attacking enough but yet some now want a defensive wing back on one side when our whole system relies on attacking wing backs.
I thought Ait-Nouri was good last night. We really should be starting him most weeks if we want to see his full potential. Only rest him for a few games if his form drops or he shows fatigue.

I want to get back to going to a packed pub before the game, then joining 30,000 others at Molineux. Hopefully the vaccine programme will make that possible in the spring. As a second choice I would rather be in the ground with a small crowd than watching on tv. Can’t get very excited about watching football on tv but it’s much better than not watching at all.
What could be really frustrating in the new year is having had the vaccine but not being able to go because the number of COVID cases still prohibits the grounds being open
I'm sure Nuno won't stick with 4 at the back cinci, but there has been a lot of comments one here about how folks like the idea. I personally don't think we were that organized. The glaring moment for me was when Walcott was clean through and fluffed his chance to make it 2-0. That would not have happened if Coady had been there, Imo of course.
We play much better with 3 at the back and have two wing backs. It is a worry though, if Coady doesn't play, that we don't have a player that can fill his spot and stick with 3 at the back.
If the UK is anything like us, then I don't see full stadiums until next season at the earliest.
If we don't adapt and eventually add more strings to our bow and only ever play three at the back then i am afraid we have already hit our ceiling.

Yep, zero chance of full stadiums this season and rightly so. I think it is rather comical that just as cases spiral out of control they decide it is the right time to start trying to get people into a stadium.
As for continuing with a formation change, Nuno seemed to me quite chuffed in his post match interview, rather more than I felt , which suggests he was pleased with the way they played in the formation and may therefore be inclined to change more often, as for going to games with 4,000 crowds as opposed to 30000, as I travel a long way the atmosphere and whole day out is s big thing, but will probably go anyway
if we'd been told pre 2016 that we would be 9 th in the prem, conceding second lowest goals and after 2 seasons of finishing 7th we'd have thought that was dreamland.
