I thought that would be a given. But there’s more to it than just that. I think Allegri would know what he’s doing, but the football still wouldn’t be very entertaining.
Expectations of league and CL titles are fanciful at this point, regardless of who we bring in. But someone that can get us closer to that level, whilst providing entertainment, is something the club should be looking to bring in.

One thing that's not been brought up in the OP is our current home form in the league. I don't expect us to win every single home game, but it has been shocking.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You beat a quality side last time out though, not my words, they were OGS's
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Shades of Mr Nice there.
Ole's record as United manager? Zero trophies.
We have good players and will win lots of games no matter the manager which gives some fans a false basis of confidence. They point to the three semi finals last season but don’t point out that practically every side we faced on the way to those semi finals were poor with one or two exceptions. When the pressure was on we bucked. I liken us to England with Gareth Southgate. Some good players but clearly are coached by someone who isn’t the best option for said players. Ole Gareth Southskaer if you would.
We bumble along, VAR helps us paper over cracks and fans say things like the manager ‘deserves the season’ which doesn’t really mean anything. We’re in a limbo situation where we won’t lose enough games to have the manager clearly sacked but we won’t win enough games to really go anywhere.
OGS is a decent guy but he wouldn’t have an eighth of the support he has if he wasn’t a United legend. And I get that’s obvious as he’s a United manager and it’s a fairytale but I think people, if they’re being honest with themselves, realise that it’s all based in hope rather than any real confidence that Ole is gonna wake up one day and magically start getting right what he’s getting wrong. God help him if Bruno gets injured. At least he doesn’t play him every week without a break 🙄

How confident is everyone that he'll pick the right team tonight? Me neither, and that sums it up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What, you mean like Fergie so often did in the easy ties.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They have already beaten us, so hardly an easy game.
And at least Fergie knew what players could play together.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
SAF knew how to stand from the dugout and bark instructions to his players. Ole is glued to his seat. Which makes you wonder, what exactly was he studying when he was our supersub on the bench
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It just doesn't seem to be his personality to do so. Unfortunately he isn't making up for it in other areas.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I personally don't think it bodes well with his players on the pitch, when he's too passive.
Sometimes players need that extra bit of guidance in a game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He and all his coaching staff are too passive. No one with a bit of fire in them. Our squad is young and don't really have that authority to look up to.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But he's the manager, the leading figure of the team. If there's any saving grace, then that would be Bruno. We need a few more of these characters in the squad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fergie lost plenty of European games we could have won with better team selection. He said so himself. We all remember him as a genius, and he won lots, but his record in Europe wasn't great
We’re in a limbo situation where we won’t lose enough games to have the manager clearly sacked but we won’t win enough games to really go anywhere.
———
Yeah this is true. It’s why I don’t buy the argument about not ‘deserving’ the sack. It’s not about that. It’s about whether he ‘deserves’ to be managing Manchester United. He’s not shown anything in his career to suggest he does.
"fans say things like the manager ‘deserves the season’ which doesn’t really mean anything."
No, Robb.
What people have said is that it's too early in the season to be making any snap judgements, which is entirely correct and emphasised by City's position.

I guess I can only speak for myself then, but for me it's not about him deserving anything, it's about logically deciding what to do so soon into the season.

But the bottom line is that if they can challenge for the title and be below us in the league then our league position isn't particularly critical at this stage.

I notice nobody has questioned why two (count them, it's an easy number to get to) former sacked United managers are currently managing teams positioned above United.
