Is it me that's weird though?

Yeah he was famous and yes he was a very good football player, but all that means is his death is in the news. His lose to his family and friends is no more or less sad than that of anyone else who dies.

Neither you or I knew him, so why should we be grieve for him any more than any of the innumerable non-famous people that die every day?

Honestly, is it just me?

You need therapy dude.

Empathy is a natural human feeling and you don't seem to show this so I am worried about you and the gist of your post.

The issue isn't even that you think that way, the issue is you coming on this thread and feeling the need to share it... what did you want out of this when you posted?

Good question. I wanted to actually understand why people do care about the death of someone they have never met and isn't even a friend of a friend.

Yes he was good at football, but he hasn't played in years, it's not as if his death cut short his career. Effectively it's like being sad about a fictional film character for all its personal effect on the majority of us.

Brilliant footballer and flawed, like us all.

RIP Maradona.

Maybe it's me, but I genuinely think cheat first and we'll after that it's all irrelevant. I just don't care how great he was as a player overall. He cheated against a team I support in a totally egregious way and was proud about it.

Honestly mate if you don’t care then you probably don’t like football either.

Just notice how you’re in the minority by a long way.

I agree, if people on here feel the need to berate that opinion so be it.

On a similar theme I also don't get why hundreds of people buy flowers in such circumstances for people they never knew. Wouldn't it be much more sensible to donate the cost to a relative charity instead?

Speaking as someone who was young in Maradona's playing days and felt the joy and elation of someone being able to play football in a way I could only dream of, it is also a stark reminder of my own ageing and of the inescapability of death.

I think there's an element of that in the death of any person - or even animal - we feel some attachment or other to.

Absolutely. Why do we even have funerals in fact? What a waste of money, donate that to charity and put them in the bin.

I beg your pardon Mr. Badass.

So in order to care you have to have met the person or they should be a friend or a friend of a friend?

Logic dictates that you should care about people you've never met, even people on the other side of the world. IMO, your view of this is very stupid and basic. It takes a certain level of intelligence to understand why anyone should care.

If you didn't know why you don't understand, well now you know it's because you aren't very clever.

A good coffin costs a bomb, and then it goes into the ground and that's it.

I know plenty of families who never spoke to any of their siblings for years, wouldn't dream of giving them a leg up if they were struggling, but when they die they always have big posh funerals, WTF.

As I wrote on the other topic just now:

"A cheat who robbed us of a likely World Cup by deciding to play a different sport (handball) during a football match.

Couldn't care less that he's dead."

This was deleted and I was banned from the topic by the little snowflake.

Did I mention Cocaine Addict?

Phuk Maradona, good riddance.

Nah, you didn't stand a chance in hell. England were completely outclassed and never in the game until 2-0 down.

Agreed, I was born in the sixties so grew up watching guys now passing and it is a wake up call.

Drink faster.haha.

Only messing, it is sad seeing Hunter, Charlton, Des O'Connor, Sean Connery pass, because they were part of our lives.

There was nothing wrong with what I said. I have no respect for him as a human being and I won't shed a tear about his passing like the little snowflakes on here.
