We may have to play worse in order to acquire fewer points as Sheffield United seem to want our record.

Well I think Cocu has done a fair bit of the work of the next chap. Youth has been developed. Deadwood has largely been removed. Wage bill has been cut. For me the makings of a very good squad are there, bar a quality striker. But we desperately need someone who has a clear idea of how he wants to play and who can give his players jobs on the pitch that they can understand.

Yes, but sure you were saying this last time around.
Deadwood. And then recruit Ibe?
I would hand it to Wassall, allow Rooney to go on honourable terms, lose the hangers on and get back to what we were doing quite well!
Oddly enough Sheffield United seem to be playing quite well, as well as last season in many ways. They just have got the knack of not kicking the ball into the net when it’s gaping. Confidence is such a huge thing.

I'm hoping Sheff Utd, Fulham and WBA all acquire less points, WBA winning tonight makes that dream less like.
Heb, I don’t know how Ibe will turn out. He’s a low-risk signing, no transfer fee. We will have to see.
As for “allow Rooney to go and lose the hangers on”, I don’t know that the club can afford the millions of pounds that would cost. Rooney isn’t going to just walk away. I still think that a strong enough manager could use Rooney effectively. Blimey, if Akinfenwa can still do a decent job at this level then surely use can be made of Rooney! He showed some very good touches when he played up front against Boro and maybe he and CKR could do 90 minutes between them.
Vidal you are much better informe. But Rooney was signed as a PR exercise (and a potentially great one), but done on the assumption that we were promotable or thereabouts.
The skills to rescue us from where we are are very specific and not anything near what Rooney had had to deal with.
Costs! I thought that was the point of new owners?
I don’t think we know for sure where we are with FFP and the ability of new owners to spend, nor for that matter what their intentions might be regarding Rooney. He has been open about his managerial ambitions and it’s hard to see him taking well to being told he isn’t up to the job and rejoining the rank and file. There doesn’t seem to be an easy way out of this.
If Rooney can get a coaching team around him, I think he could be the 'figurehead' of something that works.
There were rumours of raiding the United backroom staff. If something like Mike Phelan, Eric Steele, Rooney and SM were in place and Rooney was willing to not be pig headed and learn from the experience around him I think we might have something decent.
Plus he's high profile which might attract some loans and all that corporate sponsorship stuff that I don't really understand.
He cited Fergie and Van Gaal as his two best coaches in that order. Fergie the motivator and Van Gaal the tactician, I'd settle for a hybrid of those two.
I feel like today was an improvement on the last two, even with that side I don't think Borough would have put 3 past us. Still a long way off but I'm not ready to demand Roo's head yet, although his fitness I think has been infuriating and let us down a lot.
Improvement on the last two, wise up Wellies, it's Wycombe, do the decent thing Rooney and go and take up the novelty of management with say, Barnet.
You are a circus and I applaud the fans who said this was a bad idea and got slandered for it as well as opposing fans, you were right.
It was a buzz but I'm not willing to sit back and watch our club become a joke figure again because some betting company think they are bigger than us, especially with Red in the name.
Clear off.
Would appear I'm in the minority then.
Just think if we get the right people in behind the scenes we can have Rooney as our brand.
I would be okay with Rafa though.
Just because I'm irked mate does not make you in the minority but the word brand and Rooney in the same sentence really does make me wrench.
Team Rooney
Make Derby Great Again
I'd settle for another shot at this league again.
Rooney hasn’t backed away from this. After Boro he could have said I need to concentrate on my football and distance himself from the decision making but he didn’t. He said give me full responsibility. He made changes and in all honesty we should have won. They got a goal from nothing and then because confidence is in the bin we looked vulnerable.
I have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes but in my opinion Mel Morris has to take responsibility for what’s happening and that started with not stumping up to keep Martin. He was too busy working on the takeover and neglected the short term.
Ultimately not getting the playing side sorted could cost Mel the sale. There’s no chance of the playoffs now so the prospective owner may not fancy another year in the championship or worse
Ramses... I'd still but the club but I'd be negotiating on the price!
You don't buy a house at full value when the survey says its got rising damp and Japanese knotweed...
I don't think there was anyone on this site who didn't mention that we were desperate to sign a forward after Martin was allowed to go. It seems we know more than the people supposedly running the club. I also feel that were Martin still with us we would have a few more points and goals so letting him go would appear to be false economy. We are in the position we are in because of poor management. pure and simple.

Agree 100% Morris has a lot to answer for, most fans could see what a mistake Cocu was after a couple of games but not Morris.
He has been a disaster for the club.
Cocu has been a disaster. Whatever his pedigree he never came remotely close to understanding the Championship.
But we have the benefit of hindsight and his apologists always had the various excuses of "building for the future....youth development.....reducing wage bill....squad disruption......injuries...... etc. etc.
But here we are. Someone has to be here and it might as well be us
I don’t think they are all excuses. Some are simply facts. When things go wrong it is always tempting to say that such a thing was inevitable and predictable from the start. I do wonder whether things might have been very different if a quality striker had been signed. Without a focal point a team is always likely to struggle. Maybe it was Cocu’s decision to let Martin go and fail to replace him, but maybe the rug was pulled from under him.
Facts then. But every team has them, they get everywhere these blasted facts. But, the reality is that, despite all these facts, we are worse than every other team at dealing with them. Bottom of the league. In fact.
Every team doesn’t have the same facts though. Not every manager has to deal with a drink driving scandal causing him to lose his best defender for example. But that’s all past now, it’s about what to do next.
All are woes are over, just being reported that Mel has done a deal with Neil Lennon.
Our problems have been ongoing long before Martin left for Bristol City and seem to have a similar theme, poor recruitment, lost on a free transfer.
I doubt any of our managers since Mel was chairman have had 100% control over transfers. Whether that's Sam Rush meddling or Morris himself.
Love him or hate him, Richard Keogh was absent from Cocu's tenure at the club, whereas previous managers had his defensive and leadership 'qualities' and all made him captain ( I know these qualities can be debated).
A lot of meddling from Morris in terms of Bielik signed in region of 10 million, before Cocu's appointment confirmed, the awful signings of Paterson and Dowell, signing of Rooney ( who would have been an excellent acquisition under Lamps as originally planned with Mount, Wilson and Tomori around him. )
Other than Dutch Mike and Jozwiak I wonder how many Cocu signings we've had at the club? Had we not signed Bielik, I do wonder if there'd be room to haggle a few deals, whether on loan or perm?
Yes Cocu was limited with his knowledge of the division and showed signs of not grasping it this season after a year but personally I've been angry with Morris. How he's conducted business, the stadium sale really jars me, as does the betting company on our shirt and signing Rooney - it was two years too late. He seems to me to be easily seduced by the razzmatazz, Paul Ince involved in some capacity ( scouting?), Redknapp, Lampard and now Rooney. Appointing Judas Mac on three separate occasions under his reign shows he just doesn't learn his lessons.
I fear Beilik will (through injury) become our 21st century Derek Hales?
David Wagner now being mentioned......
