He’ll get a one match ban in my opinion.

FA have adopted a zero tolerance on the matter and they can’t be seen to be lax - especially this year of all years.

As for context, Bernado Silva’s tweet about Mendy was not intended to be malicious but he still faced repercussions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That’s the comparison I would draw before Suarez. And even then, Silva’s tweet, though meant and received as “banter”, had a lot more to it than this one - a lot more. Probable one-match ban, as you say, a club statement saying Cavani now understands things better, and that’s that.

Different context to Suarez but he should know better than to use that word in England and I'll have no quibble if he gets a ban similar to Bernardo Silva.

That's fair comment

Op would you like the freedom to speak to black people using the language that Suarez used?

1 or 2 game ban for sure. Take it on the chin.

Will he be banned for the CL though? Don't think he will be.

What a difference in responses to the issues between supporters of Suarez' club at the time and Cavani's club now.

OP looks to have done a runner after completely embarrassing himself here.

What did he tweet?? I'm guessing it's something controversial?

I was just curious as to whether there would be tribally defensive or whitewashing responses. Couple of very sensible and reasonable responses and several of the former type. I was very critical of Suarez with many of my Liverpool mates at the time but not a fan of double standards and as hominem responses. Sleep well.

Utd fans talking about the context of negrito when used in Uruguayan culture amuses me.

What is this nonsense?

Suarez used the word in an offensive way, multiple times. I.e. "I dont talk to Negritos"

Cavani used it to thank a fellow Uruguayan fan in an affectionate way, on social media and not within a heated argument.

Context is important. Day and night difference here.

I feel embarrassed for Liverpool fans who have yet to even understand why Suarez was banned.

Ah i've just read it

Had a quick check on Cavani's Twitter and noticed it's deleted. Last post was 6 hours ago, about our win.

Different cultures is one thing, but people have to remember that when they travel, it doesn't always convey the same elsewhere.

This is still different to the Suarez incident OP.

But i still expect him to get a ban/punishment for this. Can't complain about that.

It's different because instead of one person hearing it 7,800,000 read it.

Then you ought to be in side-splitting, agonising, breath-stealing, 999-calling hysterics at the idea that this might be compared with the Suarez affair.

Nope. It was a pathetic and embarrassing attempt at point scoring.

On the balance of probability I think it is absolutely being compared because we're doing it right now.

translation, you got caught out trying to wind up Utd fans who have taken a sensible stance on this and now you're lost

he'll get a one match ban, just because we know the FA are idiots who want to be "seen" kicking out racism, rather than actually kicking out racism

Yes, comparisons have been drawn in a “what have you got to say about this, then?” kind of manner, implying that the approach to the Suarez incident must now be adopted for this completely different one or there must be some hypocrisy at work.
