When is Football going to do what every other sport does and have h.i.a assessment before a player can return to the pitch, Luis should never have returned, the greed of some clubs to get there players back at all cost is unbelievable, they should go to changing rooms and have proper medical assessments from non club related officials, mean time a temp sub allowed

Yeah the level of protection the FA and other footballing bodies offer is pretty pathetic. In the NFL they always side with caution and players are taken out of the game.

the noise of the collision was sickening

i hope he's ok a can resume playing soon

thankfully he signed a new 4 year contract in October

What do you mean by the last sentence?

I assume he means he's financially protected for the foreseeable, which is a fair point. I'd imagine the lad is more concerned just now about being able to play again though. Horrible for him, really nasty injury and as others have said, you just hope it's not another Ryan Mason.

If he can't play again the club won't (rightly) pay him the remaining 4 years of his contract. But I'm sure there would be some sort of retirement payment or a move into coaching etc

Yeah - point being he's in a better negotiating position with 4 years on his contract than if he only had 1.

Still. Not top priority just now.

if the club can avoid paying him then i suspect the loss would be insured and recoverable anyway.

You would assume footballers insure themselves against loss of future earnings in the event of a career ending injury.

He’ll be fine financially but what’s more important is his health

Let's all hope the lad is ok and will be back playing again. The PL needs protocols for this type of injuries like an assessment before allowing a player back into the field as the health of a player is more important than a game of football.

Should be well insured, both club and player👍

Puts things in perspective when something this bad happens. Hope he recovers and plays again. Amazing player. Real physical and mental tragedy I wouldn't wish on anyone.

None of us know the extent of his injury and even if we did its far too early to speculate over his recovery. He's part of a knit close family and his partner has just had a daughter so my thoughts are with him and them at what must be a very anxious time.

As for Luiz, I dont think there was any malice in his challenge, they both went to attack the ball and the result was freak accident.
