200% - 400% returns or something like that over the last 3 years. We were all too slow

More than that Micheal, Tesla now has a market cap bigger than any other car company, by some distance.

Both brands of car I wouldn’t touch with a bargepole unless on a pcp deal

I would normally agree with that Baz, but EV's are far more reliable, so shouldn't be painted with the same brush as their more conventional Combustion offerings.

Often it’s not the engines that are bad though. It’s the electrics etc. Peugeot Deisels were very reliable, the rest not so much...

The only thing I use a car for is driving to climb mountains or ski. This usually involves 4 hour drives each way to the middle of nowhere. In the city I just cycle places. What can electric cars offer me?

posted on 12/12/20

It would just involve a fast charging stop along the way. But fair play to cycling, I used to do the same.

Are there any cool electric cars out there that are relatively exciting that you can buy for the same sort of price as a golf gti or leon cupra? Tesla is a good 7k more expensive, and a Nissan Leaf is similar price to a gti but nowhere near as exciting.

If you are looking for a new car, I think it would be a mistake to look at an ICE vehicle, It really is a dying technology.

The choice of EV's is growing rapidly. but it is hard to recommend anything specific, as a lot is down to personal choice and usage.

Prices might seem expensive, but EV's are much cheaper to run and Maintain, and offer many other advantages over a conventional ICE vehicle.

Pretty much every car manufacturer are bringing out EV's, If there isn't anything you now, it is only a matter of time.

I will point out Tesla are selling everything they can make. take into account the savings, the performance, safety, over the air updates etc. the whole package just works. Another advantage they hold their value extremely well. I would certainly book a test drive if you can

I am seriously looking at a Tesla, although I will probably hold off till Tesla's Berlin factory is completed.

Oh if you are not sure but considering an EV, A great place to visit would be the Fully Charged Live event in the Summer, every EV question you have will be answered, with a chance to look at all the cars that the manufactures offer.

I'll be there.

It’s absolutely the future Amiga, and something I will look at eventually. Problem is, right now unless I fork out 40k (and I’m not buying anything on pcp finance) then I wouldn’t get something I particularly want, or would compare to my GTI as it is.

Baz I think you are like most people. You see where things are heading, and are starting to ask questions. Which is the right way to go.

If you can't make the Fully Charged event, There is a place in Milton Keynes that is dedicated to EV's, and give you a chance to test drive a wide variety of Electric vehicles, while answering any questions you may have.

Have you ever driven an EV?

Nope, but I suspect I’d rather like the linear delivery they have, and the torque.

I think it will be a good few years before I am onboard, but I almost certainly will be eventually. Right now though I tons tend to change cars that often, I prefer to get one that’s well built and take care of it, so I can see me with the gti for a good 5+ years.

Baz you are doing the right thing, asking questions, and seeing what it is all about.

You will understand a bit more when you drive one, and the joy of not being tied to a Petrol station is truly liberating (as long as you can charge at home)

It might seem like a big step, but it is not as scary as people think.

It’s not a step I’d be scared of at all, I’d find having an electric car exciting, especially given how quick they can be. But, as I said so far, the equivalent to what I currently drive (and I tend never to go down a car level) is too expensive (granted I could do it via pcp but don’t want to). . I’ll be watching it closely over the next few years.

Fair enough Baz, you seem pretty level headed, I'm sure when you find the EV that works for you, you are going to love it.
