I’d much prefer the Italian lakes over NYC, it just doesn’t appeal to me.

It’s a fantastic place, so much to see and do. Spent a summer there a few years ago, loved it. We stayed outside the city and spent a reasonable amount of time at the beach, boating etc. so not just city stuff, the weather was scorching, you get the best of both worlds. This time we’d booked an overnighter in Philly, was gonna take a road trip, and a long weekend in the Hampton’s - beach front gaff with hot tub etc. Gutted it all got cancelled.

Fair play, I’ve been to some exotic cities over in the Far East, India, a good few of the european heavyweight and New York to me always seemed a like a tame destination compared to some of them, but I can totally understand why people go, there’s a hell of a lot there. I actually prefer the more alien and not so welcoming places where things are massively different, which is maybe why it’s never really appealed. I have some buddies who spent a year or so out there, and absolutely loved the place. I’ve always fancied the likes of new Orleans or San Antonio/Austin if I wanted a US city break before NYC. Washington was quite cool though.
Having lived just outside NYC for four years up until September this year i can honestly say the city is fantastic and you could spend a lifetime and barely scratch the surface. Had so many fantastic sessions out in the city in so many different neighbourhoods.
Also as Ace says it is so much more than just the city as well, people forget the weather anywhere in the states is fantastic for seven months of the year at a minimum and the New York region is loaded with beaches and great satellite towns and deep woods, lakes and so on.

Went to New Orleans just before Katrina struck.
Brilliant place, totally different vibe from other US cities I've visited.
