If they look terrified of training, they won't last long.

There was interview with Bamford last week and he paused when talking about training, you could sense the toughness of it.

But he's lasted and flourished.

Different kettle of fish for a player who is never starting with a coach who doesn't rotate players.

Think you've nailed it with the small squad. He wants everyone to be involved and given what he expects of them, can't afford to have a substantial group not playing.

To look at it from a different view point, the lack of rotation will gain loyalty from players. He doesn't cast anyone aside for a bad performance. Take Bamford as an example - he's stuck by him when fans were saying he should be dropped, never blamed him publicly and his form turned around.

Roberts is similar. He started most games in the run in last season even though he wasn't playing well and started the opening set of fixtures this season, again not playing well. Bielsa gave him an ample opportunity to turn it around, he's not playing but could never say he hasn't been given a chance.

I don't think that will go unnoticed when some managers publicly call out players, distance themselves from the blame of defeats and drop players after one game.

Coaching can't be easy. Bayern players weren't happy with Kovac and the intensity of his training. They found that it didn't challenge them, wasn't tough enough. But their a team full of winners. He's been replaced by Flick and they're happier with their training.

Not rotating players in the modern game is a drawback when you have long seasons. If you were to go far in the cups, etc. You need a squad to cope. I think this is one of Bielsa's weakness and can cause his team to burn out. I also understand that that luxury isn't afforded to clubs that aren't at the top end at the moment. Man City's second 11 could easily compete for to four. Bayern Munich's second 11 could win their league. Most teams don't have such luxury.

Roberts is an interesting one. Leeds very quiet about reasons for his exclusion last couple of games - just said he’s unbelievable - indicates not injured

Personally would like the likes of roberts and poveda to go out on loan in championship this January

Bielsa always uses his subs though and we get a lot of injuries throughout the season, so I can't see players being bothered, most knowing they will get a chance and he rarely changes a winning team.

They are being trained under one the best coaches in the world and they look at how much he's improved other players. If I was a young player trying to break into the first team I would happy work that hard to try.

but if you were an older player not getting to play, that is the challenge.

Recently we've made subs earlier, but often subs are left very late giving players very little match time.

I'm not disputing the benefits in terms of confidence players get through being picked regardless of dips in form, what I'm saying is that if players feel they have little hope of playing, it is hard to stay motivated through the tough training and that this must be hard to manage.

Bilesa seems very limited on who he brings on or even uses on the bench, Shackleton, Roberts, Costa, Hernandez and Poveda seem to be the only guys he feels are ready. The West Brom game, especially in the second half, would have been the ideal opportunity to look at other options Davis, Jenkins and Casey were on the bench.
I think Bielsa is very blinkered when it comes to the options at his disposal.

Roberts only missed the Spurs game.
I still do not see what others see from him, I think he struggles to make any impression for either us or Wales and we need better.

cant remember roberts having to many good games and most games he does get a chance in he shows very little if no worth at all and is just to lightweight and gets knocked off the ball way to easy. If there is a buyer i would sell as a loan wont help us and he would probably come back injured after a few weeks anyway

Id imagine if you are a player for him you are finding this season way easier than last.

Not having to play all the midweek games must be great.

Players love playing, love winning. Hate (hard physical) training, hate losing. The risk with bielsaball in my opinion is it requires a winning team. Players will buy into it when they see the benefits. When they’re asked to kill themselves in training, be separated from families, meet stringent body fat targets etc... and then get stuffed at the weekend it can become a slog.

There were rumours of dissent in the dressing room towards the end of his first season when promotion slipped away.

With respect to players not being involved, I agree that it’s harder to maintain motivation but generally I think they keep trying to show they deserve a chance and are generally understanding when they can’t break into a winning team - the issue again is when they can’t break into a losing team. That’s when bielsa having perceived ‘favourites’ can become divisive.

As long as we remain competitive it will be fine in my view. If we have a significant slump? Maybe not.

You get out of life what you put in.

Every squad member has seen their pay packet swell infinite numbers with guarantees of becoming multi millionaires through long contracts.

Anyone who isn’t happy with that needs to move on. For majority of footballers money talks first unless you are in a position to possible win medals. The Leeds squad should be very happy with the hard work life at Elland Road because they won’t need to work again when they retire in a few seasons times.

Where most of our team was before Bielsa I think they know what hard work brings!..

Better working for a living than having it stuck up your ass like most of the top players have!..

And truth be said, most of our players if moved on could take the bigger cut!..

It would seem that Jansson was a big part of that and we saw how Bielsa deals with such. I doubt there's much dissent in the ranks now and even if we're losing, the players know whether they've put in a decent shift and know that they're up against the best in this league now.

What the team needs is quality replacements for established squad players. You can see Pablo's class when he comes on, but he's clearly not able to play full matches now. We need Pablo-level recruitment to provide competition.

I think our days of bringing a lot of the youngsters through the ranks may be over. The youngsters are good, but most won't be good enough to improve our current squad in time to make a mark in the Premier League in the next couple of seasons.
