Too much moaning from Klopp from me. Constantly going on how players will get tired and now they look tired.

Given the appalling VAR calls at Goodison, Brighton etc - coupled with the unbelievable amount of injuries - I’d say that the tag has never been more appropriate.

We’re top of the table as it stands. I fully expect Klopp and the lads to turn it around.

Two big season, pretty much two title winning seasons. History shows it’s incredibly difficult and rare to hit 3 seasons at such a high level so I’m not surprised your levels aren’t where they have been over the past 2 years. Still a long way to go this year though

cos what he says in front of the camera and to the players is the same.

You think he goes back in the changing room fist pumping an argument with Des Kelly because he didn't mean it?

Why would the Liverpool players be more tired than any other team? I respect Klopp as a manager but he has to accept that there will be times like this when yiu have a bad run and drop 7 "possible" points in 3 games.
Not half-way through the season, top of the best league in World football. Just the odd cylinder misfiring on the Liverpool Limo. Relax Jurgen, 2nd place at the end of the season is a good achievement. Stay calm like Ole otherwise it transmits down through the players and supporters. The Man Utd / Liverpool games will probably decide who wins the PL but there are the unexploded mines out there that both teams can tread on.
On my preditions I had Liverpool to win the league by 3 points but now it is down to goal difference.

Do me a favour, if the pen against Brighton was a wrong decision then so was the pen Salah got against West Ham. You make out Liverpool are the only team who have lucked out.

Good article Ludes and happy new year. Do seem to be lacking that mentality a bit in recent games. Could have told you after about 30 mins we would lose that game yesterday, it was so poor. Bar a short spell for about 10 minutes, we never looked like scoring, and even in that 10 minute spell their keeper didn’t make a save.

Front three are letting us down badly at the moment. That needs to change quickly otherwise it’s going to be a difficult second half to the season.

There was bound to be a drop off after 2 years like that.

I see the criticism is starting to creep in. I wonder how much credit Klopp has because I think it will evaporate quickly should Liverpool sink back to their regular positions in the PL.

Such high standards have been set that a poorish run of form is being magnified. I've a feeling Liverpool may have lost some intensity having won the league but, funnily enough, the best thing that could happen to them now is to become the chasers. Think we'll see a more motivated Liverpool should they lose top spot next week.

He has a LOT of credit. And I think as long as we were to finish top four this season, no questions would be asked.

Yeah I was kind of thinking we might perform better if we're chasing too.

The brain is a muscle like anything else. In the same way that you can get to the peak of physical fitness, but it's tough to keep that intensity for a long period of time, the same could be said about being so relentless with your mentality.

The reality is that the standards have been ridiculous for the last two years, no matter who you are it's incredibly difficult to keep that going physically and mentally for more than a couple of seasons. Probably why players like Jota and Thiago will be very important for them.

There a few things wrong at the minute. The cb issue is starting to impact greater in other areas of the pitch.

Last night we started 2 at the back that would normally start in midfield. Two that in the midfield have led us to 2 exceptional seasons. We are badly losing what fabinho brings to the team in that holding role and hendo is also having to play much deeper now too. We must buy a cb. We need someone to go in there alongside matip when fit to free up fabinho back to the holding role and hendo further up the field.

Our midfield hasnt got anywhere near the respect it deserves over the last couple of seasons. You are seeing now how important these guys are in these roles as we are missing intensity in there. They press and harass teams into mistakes. Fabinho also has a great ability to pick a pass from midfield too.

Last night ox and thiago started. Both have hardly kicked a ball all season, it will take time for them to get up to speed. It was a mistake to choose them both.

Trent needs to come out. Milner is now fit, id have him in at rb against villa. Last night was a new low for trent but he has been poor all season. He needs to know his position isnt guaranteed no matter how he plays.

We also need jota back asap. Mane is trying his heart out but its just not coming off for him, poor touches, slack passes, inconsistent finishing. Salah is just off form pure and simple. If jotas fit he comes in for 1 of them just now.

We are still well in the mix. But with our fixtures compared to citys between now and our meeting in feb I wouldnt be surprised to see us fall 6 or 7 points behind of we dont turn this soon.

If we dont sign a cb we dont win the league. I was sure of that in october. Im even more sure now.

It is a combination of simple factors

1. we are not fit like we should be. we are quite a way off the levels where we can do the type of game we need to IMO.

2. we are not hungry, its patently obvious we are not as it more about greed and personal tallys up front than about winning games. esp mane and salah. they would rather pass it behind thier team mate than assist now.

3. a lot of the players have given up imo. you could tell from well out we hadn't a hope v southampton and by the 60th minute we were looking at some players going through the motions. compare that the last year where they'd climb over each other to get to win a game.

4. We have just not got the reserves to keep the side going. i agree that we have stolen all drive from the midfield to play CB. the fact we've not already bought one tells me we will be VERY disappointed by the end of january. the minute matip went down again I said trigger the buy and we should really pull the trigger.

I do think there has been a mentality shift with the "Champions" tag. I think opposition players will raise their games because everybody wants to beat the Champions and the inverse may probably effect a few players at Liverpool that because they're Champions it's almost as if everybody should fear them, which I don't think is the case no more.

Tbh, I don't think the team has been under any significant pressure to perform for about 9 months now.

For 18 months before that the iron will-to-win was as much driven by the knowledge that City wouldn't drop points so we couldn't. Competition motivates like little else and drives standards up in pretty much any sport.

Since Feb the league was effectively won and our form went from spectacular to decent. We've started the season in the same slightly patchy way, can be great but have also thrown in some stinkers. But everybody has and we've still managed to find ourselves top of the league.

The big question for me is can it be turned back on now there is competition again? Utd's form is excellent and City look like they're putting it back together again, both can go ahead of us after the games in hand. So the pressure should be back on and over the next couple of months we find out whether the mentality monsters tag was driven by the desire for a league title or more long term success.
