Has anyone watched the Louis Theroux episode on gambling? Watching a 'high roller' feeding $100 bills into a slot machine like it's nothing. No emotion on his face at all, it's like a compulsion. I've seen similar in a betting shop in the UK, except the guy had £20s. Just insane to me.

It's definitely a sickness that can ruin lives and hopefully it won't be long before professional sport bans betting companies as sponsors.

such a joke he got banned for this the media already knew the move was happening and the odds were low, it was an innocuous reply to a mate instead of a plan to let them profit out of it.

Very quick to seek out wrongdoing and to ban profitable 'gamblers' (I prefer to call them mathematicians) but no problem with operating under questionable moral guidelines, to say the least.

Was listening to Guardian Football Weekly podcast on gambling, I didn't realise that people who would be losing hundreds of thousands would be assigned their own agent who would encourage them to gamble more. Take them to corporate boxes, Grand Prix etc to make them feel like they're a VIP and get them gambling again.

Horrible stuff, not sure how it can be legal really. Like forcing a recovering addict to have a little go on your crack pipe.

Companies give VIP treatment to important clients, it's the same kind of thing. Twitter/instagram came under fire for having algorithms to make people spend as much time on them as possible, but as a business that's the whole point so it's tricky where the ethical line is.

think of the pain they inflict on millions of punters every year
