It wasn't a Yellow Card either - it wasn't even a free kick !

The Lacelles tackle on Nelson was worse maybe I’m just being biased but we certainly seems to get screwed over more then most teams

Never a red (or even a yellow), but as the commentators said, the audible scream from Longstaff may have influenced the referee and made the challenge look worse than it was. It shouldn’t, of course, but it might have done.

Yeah tbf his foot was up when he went into the tackle. I can see why the ref thought it was a red in real time. Obviously, it was clear from the replay that he did everything in his power to avoid the contact in the end and Longstaff made a meal of it. Agreed that it shouldn't have even been a yellow in the end

ESR the first player to get a red card in normal time and score a goal in extra time?

Haha that's going to be doing the rounds in ludicrously tough quizzes for years to come!

The card was truly a Neymar grade performance from Longstaff. I don't know how that ref hasn't booked him after looking at that on the monitor. It's blatantly clear from the replay that ESR had made barely any contact with him and that Longstaff run into the side of his calf, not his studs. As his shrieking scream, roll and expressions of agony as though his leg was snapped, were suggesting. Maybe it was lack of a crowd but I swear even Aaron Ramsey didn't scream that loud when Shawcross went through him.

The league need to clamp down on this because it's getting out of hand now. Between the Vardy/Kane/Sterling flops and the numerous aspiring Neymars like Longstaff. The game is rapidly becoming a farce, more about how well you can act and cheat, than how well you can actually pay football. We have our own little Neymar in Ceballos. Every time he does it I want one of the others to just go drag him up off the ground and slap him.

The ref watched the replay of the red card like 5 times before deciding to overturn it. Big enough deal isn’t being made of that

No issue with him being thorough, that's exactly what it's there for. Just irritated he didn't book Longsatff, I thought that's why he was checking it so many times, to be absolutely sure there was no way it could have hurt that much.

It's a great case to advocate that any player found out by VAR like that, should automatically receive the card and subsequent ban his innocent opponent would have gotten. Longstaff's ass would now be banned for 3 games. Players'd pack it in sharpish if you could potentially end up missing 3 games for trying it.

It was absolutely a yellow. Lucky he doesn't make more contact and only flicks him in the end. Loses control of the ball and lunges, well over the ball, and with studs out. Agreed not a red, but certainly a free kick, in my view at least.

It's about whether or not ESR should have been booked or not, I don't mind especially that he was. It's about whether the rules should have a provision for refs which would have both allowed and compelled the ref to show Longstaff red for blatantly trying to cheat. I say yes because if they did then players wouldn't do it.

Hate to sound old but it's a terrible example for them to be setting kids. Not bothered what role model they make off the pitch really. But on it, I expect them at the very least to be showing youngsters that you don't cheat to win.

Well he definitely doesn't deserve red for that. Diving should be discouraged, but not sure what Longstaff did counts. He is clipped slightly, then hurtles at speed into the ground. Think I'd probably let out some noise in similar circumstance. Probably just been amplified by the lack of fans making it a lot more audible.

Absolutely loving Tierney too - what a player and definitely Captain material. Seems to even make Xhaka play well!

Interesting you don't include the worst the divers in the league, two from Liverpool and two from Utd. Can't be bothered to name them, but everyone knows who they are. Secret fan by the sound of it ?

That's it mainly. Longstaff's cry and rolling around influcenced the ref.

I thought Longstaff hurt himself on the landing. He was clutching the leg that landed from the replay a little awkwardly.
