Angle Heart.
Amadeus.
Repo Man
Drugstore Cowboy.
The Man with Two Brains.
Weird Science
Aliens
An American Werewolf in London
The Evil Dead II
Raging Bull
Return of the Jedi
The Shining.
Raising Arizona

All great films

The best 80s film for me though is Back to the Future

The 2010s might have something to say about that

Ex Machina
Snow Piercer
Upgrade
Annihilation
Inception
Melancholia
The Martian
Interstellar
Arrival
Blade Runner 2049
Under Her Skin
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I wouldn't consider all of them classics as good as many of them are.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And I would include Edge of Tomorrow to your list.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Opinions n such isn't it? Classics to many

Can't stand Edge of Tomorrow
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you think there are 9 on that list that are as good as the 9 I mentioned for the 80's? I don't think so and I really like some of those from the 2010's. I think they are more 7's or 8's out of 10, whereas the 80's ones are more 10 out of 10, apart from E.T. perhaps.

More a case of quality over quantity for me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't agree many of those are 10s at all. Even if I do love them. Plenty of issues.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's fair enough, it's all about personal opinion. But for me a classic is more than just a great film that you like. All those 80's films are deeply rooted in popular culture due to their influence and beloved status by many. You can randomly reel off quotes from them and know where they're from. I would struggle to quote any of those 2010 films off the top of my head.

Saw Young Sherlock Holmes a few days ago. Worth a look.

WOW.

This thread makes me so nostalgic. Some cracking films mentioned, and a class decade for sci-fi, but why has no one mentioned Dune ? What a film.

Also, one for me, but mostly for the sound track, Local Hero.

My top three films of the 80’s would easily have to be:

Die Hard
Terminator
Back to the Future

Honourable mentions - Rocky III, Predator, Trains, Planes & Automobiles, TeenWolf, The Karate Kid.

Teen Wolf 🤘🏻

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't think there was a mathematician in it mate.

Mick Rourke played a detective.
Di Nero played the devil
Lisa Bonet was the love interest.

It was a twisty turny horror./thriller. Haven't seen it in years but loved it at the time.

The Devil’s Advocate came into my mind, which was Al Pacino. But that was late 90’s! Good though....

Speed
True Lies
Point Break
Die Hard 3
The Fugitive
