Tbh Spurs should in recent years be lifting trophies.
Under Jol we were a top 5 team.
Under 'Arry / AVB we were a top 4 team
Under Poch we were a top 3 team.
This points to sufficient quality to be able to lift a trophy.
Ironic that we actually did when we had one of the worst squads and managers of the last 15 years.
The difficulty is that there are no certainties AND what has often favoured the successful teams is that we have rarely had a squad able to compete when it really matters. The squad has not been big enough to take all the cups seriously particularly as things come to a head in the latter parts of the season.
Having said that we have made a good few SFs, and the fact these have often come to nought points at a mentality issue more than an ability issue.
I would not be soo stupid as to say we MUST win a trophy this season. All I want to see is for us to perform in the big moments.
If you take the League Cup final to come, if we perform and City perform then we may still lose. So often we have seen a lack of performance - UCL final , FA Cup & League SFs vs Chelsea, FA Cup SF vs Man Utd - all in the last 5 years
We are in a final which is excellent. Best we could have done so far. If we play well but lose, so be it. The better team will have won and that's no disgrace vs the Man City Fantasy football project. If we play badly and lose then nothing has changed and that is when I shall be annoyed at continued failure.

I think winning the League Cup final is vital to showing we have changed and improved. Especially given that we beat City in the league this season so we have shown we can do it. A great performance in the final but a defeat to me shows nothing has changed at all. Conversely a poor performance where we somehow get the win shows that the mentality has changed.

Totally agree, nothing has changed if we don’t win the league cup final. We have proven we can beat city and we have done it many times, so nobody can sit and tell me that City are the better side. We can win it and we need to win it. It means a lot more to us than it does City. Win that cup and get the monkey off our back. We then go on for bigger trophies after. Lose it, we are the same old bottle job Tottenham.

Everything has changed if we don't win the league cup final or any other silverware. Aside from Burnley we're probably playing the worst football in the division, certainly within the big 6. To not win anything playing like that is a disaster. Can you imagine playing as we are for the usual 3 season Jose stint and having nothing to show for it. It would be awful. Everything has changed in terms of style, and we'd better have something to show for it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would you take CL football(on the premiss we don't win anything this season) and hopefully more money for team investment? Sacking the manager means another transition period. I can't be bothered with that.
I think this would be Levy's criteria as well.

I think Don and I were talking about whether our mentality and ability to get over the line has changed.
Oh right! That makes sense! Ignore me. I just couldn't ar$ed to read the entire thread.
Everton are the only club on that list that you should say should be winning more and even they have a more recent FA Cup triumph than Spurs
