Parker says it's scandalous-Short notice

He`s 100% correct.

Unfortunately English football has put itself into a difficult position. Neither cup should have taken place this season (nor the European competitions and internationals, but that is a different story) and with Euro 2020 still being expected to take place there isn't much room for manoeuvre.
Spurs, like all the teams in Europe, do not have the room in the fixture list to have multiple games postponed. Plus they have another game moved due to the cup final.

It is not right, but it is symptomatic of the situation we are in.

He's right, and there will be lot more of this.
It will basically turn the league, if it isn't already, into a bit of shambolic mess.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho said: "Are you serious? I had the news I was not going to play them two hours before the game started."

I think this fixture makes sense tbf getting it played on Wednesday, they had a couple of days notice.

posted on 12/1/21

Didn't we get 2 hours notice before the original game was postponed?

What I think is scandalous is that Villa played Liverpool with their youth team on Friday and don't have to do the same for us tomorrow? The cynic in me thinks they were happy to get out of the Cup and concentrate on the Prem.

Surely Friday set a precedent.

Agree with this.

I'm hopeful the season will actually finish. Take Spurs for example, they've already had 2 games postponed and rearranged due to Covid issues but it hasn't even hit them yet (if it does of course). Presumably if it does and they don't play 2/3 games that need rearranging at some stage, where do they fit them in?

That seems to be the case. Funnily enough I've read an article on this as I was having my dinner today and it does seem like clubs are willing to give up cup fixtures, but the league is a priority.

Just seemingly takes the mic out of the cups even more really.

Although frustrating, it is a bit different preparing for a game that didn't go ahead, to having to play a game you haven't prepared for. So don't really get that argument.

If they had any sense they would make the teams knocked out in the FA Cup already to play league fixtures against each other on the date of the 4th round, to make options for later in the season.
Same with 5th round.

All the clubs were warned at the start this season was going to be disruptive. I do feel for Fulham and if the shoe was on the other foot I would be pi55ed off too probably but we have to play at some point.

We have also had to play 4 games in a week twice this season and only had one day to recover in between fixures but we got on with it.

Both Fulham and Villa players/staff have brought this on themselves at the end of the day and I hope Villa suffer a similar fate down the line as well.

The stupidest thing UEFA did was set an official start date for Euro 21 last spring, before anyone even knew when football would return. Just bonkers.

If it had to be played they couldve easily said it will be played between x and y dates which will be confirmed later and left it at that.

As it is, as DJ says, there is pretty much zero flexibility as to when this season can be finished.

Hes a d*ck. How can he basically dismiss that our game was postponed 3 hours before kickoff. Having 3 days to prepare, and like he said they knew of the possibility since Saturday night, is not the worst thing in the world

posted on 12/1/21

As much as a shame it would be to someone like Goran Pandev, Euro 20 sadly should be scrapped.
Make Euro 24 a 32 team competition so the likes of Scotland and North Macedonia keep their qualification and allows others the chance to qualify.

We all know why it won't happen, but it is the common sense thing to do at this time.

I thought it was one of more sensible decisions in a long time from the FA. If Fulham players didn’t all originally all spread the disease through their club, we wouldn’t of been here in the first place. Good decision by the FA and within a decent enough time period. Teams have 1 or 2 days to prepare for other games during Xmas period, so why is this any different ? Stop moaning Fulham, get the f** on with it.

posted on 12/1/21

What do they even mean by 'prepare' though, like specific tactics etc related to Tottenham as an opposition? Just use the notepad you'd already written in before the first game was due to be played.

posted on 12/1/21

I think it should be scrapped as well personally. Could it not be feasible to move it all to one country rather than having them travel round Europe?

I agree.

Unless spurs win either/both cup(s) then I don’t agree.

I think I saw you make your second point before and I struggle with it. The fact that we played 4 times a week twice is an absolute f***ckint sh**show from the powers that be. I don’t think it’s justification for any other club to get screwed over.

No sympathy for Parker, even as an ex Spurs player/

Firstly you did not hear him moaning when the original game was called off 2 hours before.

Secondly, without being uncaring, these clubs hit by wide spread Covid, must be accountable for their staff and Players actions.

We all know in most cases you get this virus through contact with others whilst not adhering to reasonable social distancing. If you have 7 or more people with it, there must be a case to call them out for not taking reasonable steps to maintain pre agreed bubbles within their clubs.

There are many cases of ordinary people not being able to see relatives, having to stay home and generally put their lives on hold. For Parker to come out and rant publically when his cosseted players who are given every possible facilities ( bar the actual vaccine ) is out of order.

Lastly, as said above, it is simply wrong that League games have different rules to cup games. Putting out U18's to complete a cup game is fine, as long as that is also done with league games, with the alternative that no show means is forfeit of the match, and the 3 points.

Yes, one could make the arguement that given that they have already prepared for this game in the days leading up to the cancelled match, technically they have had longer than usual to prepare for this fixture.

I'd assume the preperation would be more about the fitness of the players. If it is Monday and you have a game on Friday the preperation would be different to if you had a game on Wednesday.

Fulham did rest most players on Saturday though, so a bit different to if they had a PL game at the weekend.

Maybe the frustration is that they would have scheduled a training session that went:
Sunday intense
Monday intense
Tues Moderate
Weds game

And instead didn’t get the prep the way they’d hoped

Parker needs to shut up his whinging.

He cannot moan about his players not being fresh, or having selected a different side at the weekend. His players played on Boxing day and then not again before the FA Cup at the weekend - a lovely 2 week winter break.

Meanwhile Spurs played on 27th Dec, 2nd 5th and 10th Jan.

People should stop whining and be thankful.

This is a pandemic. Things may be out of the norm and a little difficult.

Suck it up and be grateful you have a well paid job ffs.

If SPurs make it through to the QFs of the FA Cup and Europa Cup (very possible), then we will have 3 mid-weeks free between now and the end of April.

This week
Next week
The week b4 the League Cup final.

Hopefully next week we will play the Villa game, leaving this week and 1 week in April.

If we make the QFs of the FA Cup that displaces a weekend game which will also need squeezing in, and if we make the FA Cup SF, that displaces another. Added to Fulham game, there would literally be more displaced games than available midweek slots to rearrange....unless we played it on a Monday or Tuesday before a European Cup semi-final on the Thursday!

Parker.....suck it up buttercup! Your team's played once in over 2 weeks No sympathy!
