The rules are basically saying it's dangerous play 'within play' but hey if youre a sub on the side of the pitch feel free to run over to the opposition bench and give someone a nice good ankle snap
It's because the ball isn't in play after the Shaw foul.
In last nights example the Brady foul wasn't really dangerous, more a goal scoring opportunity which I felt should have been a red card (had Shaw not fouled at an earlier point).
Regarding dangerous play, didn't Pickford get away with a dangerous foul because the ball wasn't in play? Could be wrong.
The Brady one wasn't dangerous. It was just a foul that stopped a chance. Should have been a red if not for the Shaw foul, as it denied an obvious scoring opportunity.
Pickford could and should have been punished despite the offside. That was dangerous and reckless.
Basically if players see a foul they need to chop someone down and they’ll get away with it
I asked a similar question on an earlier thread. Seemed very similar to the pickford/van dijk incident.
As the OP said it sèems to be happening more or will do because if VAR so they need to consider changing the laws/rules appropriately.
Can't find a video of the Brady challenge so just going on memory but seemed just as dangerous as he took both cavanis leg in that "scissor " type motion commentators always like to mention. If his feet had been more planted could have been much worse

If it were a dangerous challenge by Brady it could have been awarded as a red.
It's a bit like the lino not putting the flag up until late...to all intents & purposes the game continues, although someone is judged offside....but the [play goes on & any foul play should be deemed as punishable
Same should apply to pre VAR incidents, whereby the ball ins in play until the ref whistles otherwise
Any & or all foul play should be dealt with

The Brady tackle was poor & could be judged red...but there was a second defender close, making a goal scoring chance 'potentially questionable'
I felt the Brady tackle itself, never mind the goal scoring opportunity aspect, was reckless in itself. Think his yellow card still should have stood despite the free kick going back to the Shaw situation. I suppose the argument is he wouldn't have made the challenge had the original freekick been given. All a bit messy but the only egregious decision was the Maguire goal being chalked off.

Not a chance. There was no way anyone other than Brady was getting close to Cavani.
Irrelevant of the goal scoring opportunity if Brady tackles like that in the game do people agree it is a yellow.?
If so is he getting it rescinded simply because the foul occurred during a phase which VAR later annulled?
I
"Not a chance. There was no way anyone other than Brady was getting close to Cavani."
balance of probability would tip in this favour...but it's still "potentially questionable"
But it's all a moot point anyway
Wasn't Bailly got a yellow card recently as he threw a flying tackle after the ref blew the whistle for a foul earlier? Think it was in Aston Villa game

dunno..quite right too though if he did
I'm not saying he was booked incorrectly. Just wonder the 'out of play' argument is valid
To my mind play is live until the whistle goes...this includes any play past a VAR check
For me the Brady challenge was a yellow card and maybe not the most dangerous tackle but certainly in the realm of dangerous.
However not wishing to get distracted by the specifics of that challenge, my issue is more about punishment for a "second" foul if VAR picks up an earlier one.
I think maybe the pickford issue is maybe a better example to use.
