The club is fast becoming a total embarrassment

Right first of all, fwck off with politicising through a football club right

Otherwise I completely agree with you but it seems to me that many have suddenly found that Celtic plc are what they are and for decades always have been.

When you put strong plc board members in place it's hardly a surprise when they put company interests first and above anything else.

Rangers are run by fans.

There's the difference right there.

its got worse over the years mate. a total disconnection from the fans until its time for cash.

I'm actually pretty disgusted by it.

I'm disgusted by them for failing to achieve the ten in a row at a time when Celtic were light years ahead of their rivals.

Incompetence from the board and the manager has led to our worst season in ten years.

Parallels with John Barnes finishing 21 points behind Advocaat, buying Scheit, Eyal Berkovic and other underperformers, whilst trying to play a 2-2-6 formation.

Yep.

I just find it surprising that many are surprised.

For years we have gloated about the fiscal management of our club and revelled in the millions sat at our disposal. That’s the kind of board we have had for years now.

We’ve ridiculed Rangers for going bust (quite rightly too) but are equally “shocked” when they continue to fund the club to achieve things on the pitch. Looks like at last they’ll succeed but at what cost is unknown.

I was lambasted for a long time by stating that Ashley would likely have got them there far quicker but again at a cost. My point was that as a fan you don’t care about the finances when you win trophies at the expense of your bitter rivals.

Bears don’t have any real concern that they have a financial black hole that never seems to be filled as they are on the brink of the 55 and stopping our 10. To them that’s all that matters and who is to say they are wrong?

Out of interest - what did Lawell actually apologise for specifically? I havent seen it.

Was he apologising because they went and then for the chain of events that followed - Julienne caught covid and then all those players missed the Hibs game, points dropped etc. ie. an apology to the fans for the end result?

Or did he apologise for not considering public feeling before they went and the PR 'optics' of it?

Or was it an apology for not properly assessing the changing Covid landscape (and so the actual level of risk) before deciding to go?

I only heard bits and pieces about it - the furore seemed to be mostly around the statement that Celtic were the hardest hit club by Covid - which didnt seem to go down too well.

Its not an easy situation to try and manage the various aspects of the fall out over. Intersted how Lawell approached it and if it was well received.

I actually don't think this would be the worst thing if they hadn't just spent a rumored £250k on that trip, wouldn't that mostly fund the academy for a year?

As OP says furlough is there to be used and i dont think there should be stigma attached to companies who genuinely need it.

The other thing though is what's the impact to the academy players career? What if this it for 3 months or more, that's a lot of development to miss out on.

As for Rangers funding "black hole" its not like they haven't been open about it. We had do build a squad (unfortunately due to mistakes made on manager appointments needed more than 1 attempt) so could not recoup anything from player sales so have relied on director and fan funding.

The board have stated from next season that changes. We do however have a squad with sellable assets and we will essentially move to the model that celtic used effectively until that last season or 2.

That model only works if you get the replacements right and i have faith in our recruitment team now.

Frustrating to see football clubs and players becoming out of touch with the paying fans, supporters, average working guy etc.

Just a comment about 10 in a row, it puts all sorts of pressure on the club trying to achieve it. I see a lot of similarity with rangers going for it in the 90s.

Aging players and legends of the club being picked over better youth players. Squad spoilt by success, no longer hungry to win because they have quadruple treble medals etc. Lots of players thinking about their next gig away from Celtic.

The performances in Europe are normally a good bench mark of what kind of season you will have.

It's probably a good thing if Celtic start rebuilding now.

It’s achievable if they retain the squad they have or find even better players.

My thoughts are that this pandemic will wreak havoc on all of football but particularly Scottish football. I just don’t see clubs elsewhere or even in Scotland having dare I say “cut price” deals.

Rangers have sellable assets in Kent, Morelos and I’m sure others, but they’d have to be replaced with cheaper players who are equally as good or more expensive players who should be better.

There’s no guarantee on any of that as we’ve demonstrated with ease.

Will Gerrard even be there next season?

I think both us and Rangers will end up next season with weakened squads. That won’t help with any European qualifications and I’ve maintained for years now that Scottish football is Europa League standard at best.

As ever we will see

I do see the similarities with rangers 9 in a row but I would say that was far more a case of rangers losing it than this is of Celtic doing so.

Rangers were still a strong squad and had good investment and recruitment. I think though Walter saying he was leaving has too much of an impact.

The thing I would say is different though is it's far more about what rangers have done this season.

Even if Celtic hadn't imploded the issue is we have been so significantly better and livi game aside (would argue we were very unlucky against a Hibs side in top form) haven't slipped up in the league.

Rangers have gone out and won it regardless of Celtic
