Rashford: Jose told me to dive

Diving is against the rules, but a lot of the top coaches will tell players that if they anticipate contact or they can see it coming, then go down. If there is contact and the defender doesn't get the ball and takes you out, it doesn't matter whether you have looked to draw a foul or not, it's still a foul.

I know what you're saying yes a dive is cheating, but drawing a foul isn't.

I don't know if you have seen the Spurs documentary but watch that example when they play Man City and they are appealing for a penalty seconds after missing one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But exaggerating contact is against the rules, surely?

GT, there's a chance that a reasonable discussion might break out so I'm just going to leave you to your own obsessed ramblings for now.

I'm sure there's be an opportunity for your off topic, personal attacks again soon.

Not really I wouldn't say exaggerating the contact is against the rules, it depends on the context though really.

I get frustrated when a defender is a chasing a ball down towards the corner flag and they then go down under a "push" from an opposition player closing him down. Even though it's only minimal contact, it's still a foul but like you say, that's exaggerating contact because a lot of the time the defender will go down under minimal contact.

Some of the rules don't say anything about how much contact needs to be given. For example, a direct free kick can be given if a player "impedes the progress of an opponent with contact". It doesn't say how much contact.

I know what you're trying to say about players exaggerating situations, but if it's a foul then it's a foul.

Yeah it's weird how things change. The only solution is to change back. So everyone can you please change back to having the sense of humour you did back in 2011? That seems to be the only solution here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like I said though, the rules don't state how much contact is required for it to be a foul, so it comes down to the context of the situation which I don't really want to go into.

I understand there are players that deceive, but at this same time a foul is a foul, it just depends on the context of the situation I suppose.

For clarification so we don't end up going through every possible scenario and then disagreeing on what is/isn't a foul in our opinions really.

as a reminder of the OP it's about being told to dive, or encouraged to do so...(Pogba Shaw)

In the 'context' of the game, i'd like to see it punished with a , both from someone encouraging it (Pogba) to anyone caught out trying to decieve the ref - through just plain cheating

----------------------------------------------------------------------

But that doesn't actually mean anything.

My point is that if a player exaggerates the contact by falling to the floor then they are deceiving the referee.

That is against the rules.

Fairly clear, no?

posted on 15/1/21

very clear...

posted on 15/1/21

Tbf, I didn't even mention anything in my original comment about exaggerating the contact anyway so idk why it's suddenly got here.

I originally said if the player can see somebody could potentially foul them then they will go down or win a free kick. It's not deceiving the referee if they can see they are going to get taken out and then they win the free kick because they turn away and get clattered.

Sorry if you thought I was talking about players who attempt to deceive the referee, that's not what I meant.

posted on 15/1/21

So yes, exaggerating contact/deceiving the referee is against the rules, but I wasn't talking about that in the first place.
