We could sell Pepe and buy this guy twice.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him with us next season.

Personally, I'd actually like to see Chambers, playing fully match fit again first, before deciding to ship him out. Playing as well as he was when he got injured, shifting him without checking first to go sign a player who's never played in PL is not a good decision (bordering on foolhardy). I don't care how good Upemcano is reported to be, doesn't mean he'll be instantly that good in PL. Arteta's made enough bad transfers out already ta. It's only DL and musatfi CB-wise who should be shifted in this summer window. Holding's staying put and Chambers needs to be kept too, at least until Jan.

**Unless he's up for renewal now anyway.

How many more years does Chambers need? Injury prone and not good enough.

He is likely moving to Bayern Munich.

This ain't FIFA, ya don't just by the player and he's instantly good in PL because his stats are good. Like it or not Upemcano is still an unproven player in PL. So until we actually get him here, playing and settled in PL (at which point he becomes the better option) it's stupid to get rid of Chambers. It's nothing to do with how much more time Chambers needs. He's proved himself more than good enough to be a squad player so that's moot. You do it the way I'm suggesting because of the time Upemcano needs to come to settle into a new country and league.

Selling Chambers before that happens is a bad move since it'd only leave us 3 CBs, assuming the DL and Mustafi go. One injury in the position and we're stuffed. Don't assume that just because a player has good stats and big hype, that it'll be all plain sailing, rosie and he'll jumst step off the plane and instantly be a PL hit. Since we've seen that more often than not, it doesn't work that way. Most players need to settle in first. Any manager should cover his and his team's asses, until that happens. In this case, that means keeping Chambers until the window following the purchase of Upemcano, assuming no other CB is bought and DL/Mustafi go.

Personally I think ya dreaming and far more likely to be seeing DL offered another extension.

I doubt we would get Upamecano. Unless we offered silly wages we can't afford. To your point of Chambers being a good squad player, I think the issue with us is that we have TOO many squad players and not enough outstanding players who would walk into the squad when fit. Maybe Partey, Leno, Saka and Tierney are the only players that are nailed on to start when fit. The rest...I doubt we can get consensus on who is the best. And even if we picked the other 7, chances are we are not wholly satisfied with the team picked. Bellerin or Cedric...some would argue for AMN. I think Mari is a starter..but Gabriel is on par. Yet Gabriel was fit yesterday and did not start. Luiz, Holding, Chambers, Mustafi...those are squad players to me. Ceballos, Xhaka..who starts? Pepe/Willian...probably neither. ESR..yes but thats because we have no other option. Auba or Martinelli on the left? Laca or Auba up top? It's crazy that all we have at the moment are squad players...only 4 are crucial to the team. And that is a problem.

To bring it back to Upamecano...his profile would be that of a crucial starting player. But realistically, he has far better options.

stop talking about players outside your league.
would you see crystal palace westham, Burnley talk about wanting to sign him? so you shouldn't.

let the big clubs have gosip about him.
