The world's best at tracking back. Arguably invented it.

What a ridiculous statement. He was just a kid when he was with those grannies. They will be long dead by now.

theres a rooney retired article just below this one.
did you post another one to see how much traffic you could get and then compare results with the other article at the end of the day?

The article from Matth doesn't pay tribute to him though, it just says he's Derby gaffer.

Greg straight forward as always

As per usual with the anti-United media,

I want to hear Steve F's comments on this

He should go down as one of the PL greats but I suspect he'll end up being a bit underrated and somewhat forgotten about.

Great player. Always wanted to see Gerrard behind him for England and I think it would have worked.

17-21 when he was playing instinctively

Too much tactical instruction (or other responsibilities) seem to weight down on those sudden inspirations

Yeah his career has just kind of fizzled out really.

In short, one of the greatest English footballers of all time.

I do think Rooney was unfairly judged on his granny activities
Surely going from the bed of a scouser to a 70yr old tart he was just climbing the social ladder ?
No rung lower than a dipper

Would he make top 10...top 5?? Not saying either way, just curious what you think...

Charlton, Moore, Banks, Keegan, Matthews, Greaves, Dean, Shilton? most people I guess would have somewhere in their top tens.

Then you’re probably talking about Rooney, Robson, Beckham, Gerrard, Scholes, Lineker, Finney, Rio, Gazza, Hurst? maybe a few more I’ve forgotten.

I’d probably have him at the back end of my top ten.

Rooney at 18 was one of the best I have ever seen at that age. As well as the pace, power, energy he had an immense football brain. Watching him burst past Thuram in Euro 2004 was something along with everything else he did in that tournament. Also remember a 3-2 win over a very strong Argentina in a friendly where in the first half, he was head and shoulders above anyone on the pitch, from both sides.
I get that United fans will say he turned into a "better" player as he got a bit older in terms of his influence etc, but that Rooney from 17-21 where he has that pace and played with no fear was sensational to watch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually I agree with you. And his first season with us was his best.
I said once before his career path was
Great
Excellent
Very good
Good.
It was only my opinion and I got a bit of stick for it, but I stand by it.

I naively thought Rooney could be the best player in the world after watching Euro 04 and his start at Utd. Obviously never happened but still, he had a fine career, often putting the team first.

You forgot Tommy Taylor, look at his stats. And no Big Dunc
Also a lot of people at the time thought Finney better than Matthews.
Finally I'd have Robbo in an top 10

Ashley Cole deserves a mention.

Great player but not someone I warmed to as time went on if I'm honest.

Then met him and he is honestly a very nice fella. Down to earth and quite shy.

It’s difficult for a nipper like me to judge the lads of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s.

In my lifetime, I’d have Robbo and Rooney in my top five.
