It's more just a message type thing, a little token gesture not to hug at the moment.

If they were going by the science then they'd be not playing at all or at least socially distance the whole time on the pitch.

That’d be an interesting game to watch.

We used to book out a full 11 aside pitch every week and sometimes only get numbers for 5 aside (occasionally we didn't shrink the pitch), it achieved something close

Me and my dodgy knees can relate to that

as unpopular as it sounds, I don't get the outcry from either side.

hugs will not be the difference between players catching covid or not . Just like kneeling before games will not be the difference between racists killing or not. But kneeling and not hugging are gestures that will serve as a reminder of what is happening outside the bubble of football in society.Whether people need that reminder is another debate

Yes, we all like football to be as normal as possible but there are people giving up a lot more than celebratory hugs in the current times for me to care either way.

But it doesn’t really work as a gesture if there’s physical contact throughout the game. It’s not really comparable to kneeling imo.

I don’t think people are complaining about it because it’s a lot to give up.

It’s because it’s absurd and a distraction from the real problems with controlling the spread.

Imagine a player not celebrating scoring a last minute winner in the Liverpool v Man U game

didn’t even last one game, good on wolves and West Brom for ignoring it
