Does anyone know what Jones's injury actually is. He must have been out for 7-8 months now?

I have to applaud you on how you've coped with the continued loss of Phil Jones...

Exactly, don't hear us banging on about injured CBs every week do you like them lot over in Liverpool.

More from Ole:

Lindelof has been outstanding for us this season. Yes Eric did well when he came in, but he has a job on his hands to displace the best centre back in the world.

Just says 'knee injury' on any injury/physio room sites.

Wonder what Winston makes of that claim.

Plus VVD has only missed a big chunk of 1 season, Jones is getting his testimonial for 10 years service next year and he's only played 165 games for us

Interesting to hear Diallo might not be too far away from getting a bit of game time.

I beleive they're naming the club medical centre after him

Look forward to seeing him on the bench for the final PL match of the season

Although worrying to hear his comments on Bruno, who would obviously never admit he's tired, but hopefully Ole can see this himself when he watches games and gives him a deserved rest soon.

Obviously Bruno hates not playing and being subbed (he was livid when got taken off on Sunday) and is a big character. But Ole needs to stamp his authority and leave him out from time to time.

Absolutely ridiculous.

I mean, what is Ole smoking?

He's making himself sounds silly with these sorts of statements.

"he’s always on the verge of creating something when he loses the ball and that’s what he’s been told to do, I want him to play the passes he sees."
-------------------------
This is very important. There is a small undercurrent on here ready to have a dig at fernandes, but those folk need to remember what things were like before Fernandes arrived... Desperate for players who would take risks and try to make things happen.

It's not always gonna happen, but this sudden clamour for him to play simple passes is hindsight at it's finest.

I agree for the most part, but there is also a sloppiness in his game that has nothing to do with risk-taking.

He has more than enough credit in the bank to escape criticism for it from me or anyone else, but it's definitely something he can improve on.

Most frustrating thing with Bruno lately is he can’t make a 5 yard pass. I get that when it comes off we probably have a goal scoring chance for most of his passes, and Ole’s allowing him to make those errors due to the risk/reward of the pass, let’s say.
But he really does need to start making them count in the big games!

I've been critical of Bruno's over tendency to force things that simply aren't on. It's not about playing simple passes versus playing difficult ones, but playing the right pass more consistently than choosing the wrong one.

There are times when he tries something that simply isn't there or has no real prospect of working. An example at the weekend was when a ball got played out to him on the left in the first half. We were under a lot of pressure at the moment in the game and really needed to get on the ball and relieve some pressure. The ball was switched out to him and rather than bring it down, hold it and allow the team to get up the pitch a bit, he tried an outrageous first time half-volley over the top pass for Rashford that he mishit and ballooned it up into the air back into the middle of the pitch, putting us back under pressure again.

I understand Ole wants him to take risks - I do too - but taking risks doesn't mean trying to do the sublime every single time. There are times when he just has to be a bit more savvy and controlled. He'll be a better player for it and we'll be a better team overall.

Plus risky passes aren’t always the right passes. There’s a difference between taking no risks and retaining the ball when needed.

I thought exactly the same, he tries things like this way too much. We are way too eager to get through with 1 killer ball, whereas sometimes the better way is playing a series of passes to work the position.

But in his head, it had the prospect of working. If he is overthinking rather than playing on instinct, then the magic of his game will diminish.

posted on 19/1/21

Not necessarily. Plus playing on instinct isn’t always the best thing anyway, especially if you are a playmaker. David Silva is probably the finest playmaker the prem has seen. And it’s because of his decision making that he was.
