It's been handled with a degree of incompetence by the club. We've let players linger around longer than they should. Lamela should have sold a while back.

I don’t think a player has really been created by having spent three years at a club before 21 either anyway.
Lukaku was already an international footballer, for example, before going on loan for a couple of years after Chelsea signed him. He then qualifies as homegrown.
It makes a bit of a mockery of the concept of homegrown players. Gonna be interesting to see what happens with this stuff now Brexit has gone through.
I know the FA are keen to make things stricter and have fewer non-homegrown players in the squads.
It would be madness to offer Aurier a new contract, he will always be a liability and nobody is going to pay top dollar for a player like that. We could end up stuck with a player who is a liability on a four year contract and no takers.

Its European employment law. You cannot discriminate against employees based on their nationality so instead of limiting EU 'foreigners', which is forbidden, the limit is on home grown which does not relate to nationality.

I'd swap Aurier and Doherty, for all the stick Serge gets, he's a much better player then Doherty who in my opinion is one of the worst performers this season.
With the Lloris situation, the ideal scenario would be to keep him here another season or two and bring in a highly promising young goalkeeper who can play as a backup while being groomed for the number one spot.
No chance Levy will do this though. We will either sell him at the most inconvenient time possible having not sorted a replacement or at best he will run down his contract, leave for free and then we will take a punt on a replacement keeper which could either work out well or go horribly wrong.
Get rid of the useless lamela. Taking up a spot and has contributed for 5 years
