I’d have thought they’d have gone for someone with a better track record than Tuchel.

Tuchel is a weird appointment

I think he’s overrated. He may prove me wrong but he certainly didn’t do a great job at PSG or Dortmund.

I'm not sure how highly he is rated? I think he's at that tier below Klopp, Pep, Jose, Ancellotti. He's a modern manager who won't be out of his depth but you can't say if it'll work or not for sure.

Wouldn’t say Ancellotti and Jose have top tier in a while now.

He’s landed back to back jobs at very rich clubs. He’s clearly highly rated.

Yeah highly rated is fair I think. He did a decent job with Dortmund and PSG. It's not like his teams look clueless and he bombed out.

I think they're top tier in terms of proven track record and being a known quantity. It's fashionable to bash Jose but his success speaks for itself. Ancellotti the same, are you saying that because he's at Everton?

A decent job yes but wouldn’t say he exceeded expectations in either job.

No but neither Jose or Ancelotti would get the really top jobs in Europe nowadays.

Yeah that's fair. I reckon that's why he's only got 18 months.

And I'm not sure I agree. I get your point they might not be the top of the list for top clubs but at the same time it wouldn't be a shock if Bayern hired Mourinho. Or United Ancellotti. You know they'd be able to cope with it.

Because money. All this ballacks about bubbles and testing doesn't hold up when you look at all the cases at clubs.

If you've got money you can do what you like.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the bottom line.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Considering they are using the money for endless private testing therefore drastically reducing the risk, surely that's a good thing?

They’d cope with it but not sure they’d be anywhere near the top jobs any more.

Ancellotti’s last 2 jobs have been Napoli and Everton. Not small jobs by any means but smaller than his past jobs.

Similar with Mourinho. No disrespect to Spurs whatsoever but it’s probably his least biggest job since leaving Porto.

Yeah fair point on their recent career moves. Though I don't think that should define them. Benitez was still rightly regarded as a top manager despite being at Newcastle. Similarly Bielsa's reputation is far bigger than Leeds', especially when he took over.

I think maybe (especially with Ancellotti) there's a point when you get tired of it and even if you are offered bigger jobs you turn them down. Mourinho living in a hotel because his family didn't want to move to Manchester, for example.

I dunno. I don't think there was much surprise Tuchel got the Chelsea job. But it wasn't a coup for them either. Seems like a pretty realistic a decent deal for both sides.
