Are Fosun doing enough?

I think it was Alan Hanson who said "You'll never win anything with kids" and those words are ringing like an alarm bell right now.
In the regular squad now we have Neto, Silva, Ait-Nouri, Vitinha, Hoever, Otasowie, Gibbs-White and Kilman. Of those only two are clearly good enough to compete in the Premier League, Neto and Kilman. Otasowie also looks like a good option off the bench. As for the rest, they all have potential but that is all they have and u23 football is what they should be playing right now.
With Jimenez, Jonny and Marcal injured we currently have 13 senior outfield players, the rest are makeweights. If Fosun are serious about becoming a real force in this league and Europe they need to address this situation pronto!

To utilise those 13 players to the best advantage I would suggest that our best starting lineup would be:

..............................Patricio
........Boly................Coady..............Kilman
.......................Moutinho......Saiss
.....................Otasowie......Neves
Adama.....................Willian....................Neto

Oh so it was the Chinese government who insisted on us spending 50 million quid on a bunch of teenagers when we needed experienced players, whilst balancing the books by selling 2 of our best was it?
Thanks for that I really had no idea that the Chinese government were taking such a keen interest in our little club.

well the chinese government are preventing money from being spent abroad and on football clubs, so your dream on becoming a top 6 club is never going to happen unless u get new owners

You need to give your head a wobble pal. Our owners just spent (wasted) £38m on an 18 year old. The point is that the money could have been more wisely spent

I think the operative word there Gem is could have. It could also be money well spent, or even worse terribly spent.

Time will tell, especially since we have bought with the future in mind.

I do wish people could look beyond just spending money.

Amiga I respect your views very much but I'm afraid that having watched Silva in several games now, my considered opinion is that the money could have been better spent at this time. I have no doubt that Silva and the other young talent we have brought in will all become top class players but what we needed when Jimenez and 4 other first teamers were injured was players that could make an immediate impact. As a result of the transfer business we are sliding down the table and with the players we have available I can see no way we can halt that slide.
I have always been positive about periods of poor results, confident that Nuno and the players will turn things round but I'm seriously struggling with positivity at the moment.

I do believe Fabio will develop into an extraordinary talent. At the moment, he’s just a kid isn’t he? The issue is we needed a back up to Raul that was ready to step in immediately. That was the mistake.

Gem it is all about perspective. again the word could has appeared, and of course you are correct it certainly could,

I'm sure there are some real bargains out there, and if it were as simple as going to a shop and the best being labelled, then the decision would be easy.

Sadly it is not that simple, Millions get wasted on what was supposed to be the hottest football property, Some work out, others fail miserably. Just ask Sunderland.

There is plenty to be positive about, Wolves have chosen a long term path, which means by default the players coming in are not the finished article. It is not Silva's fault, and how good he will be time will tell.

So instead of dismissing all the good that is being done, because of the failure of one season, how about we, get behind the Owners, the manager and the team.

Wonder how good Silva will become. I suspect very good but it certainly wasn’t the plan that Jimenez woukd get a serious injury and Fabio would be asked to fill the breach this season. But his time will come as hopefully it will for some of the other young players we have brought in over the last couple of years

The last young player to leave Portugal for a huge sum was Jaoa Felix who Athletico Madrid paid a ridiculous €125m for when he was 19. Of course he didn’t live up to that tag early on and everyone concluded what a waste of money

Now he is 21, playing and starring for Athletico week in week out and they lie ten points clear at the top of La Liga with a game in hand

I’ll be holding on to my season ticket just in case

On a more positive note. I think Willian Jose has done pretty well since arriving. So reasons to be cheerful.

Two things in the main have hit our season. One being the injury to Jimenez which hit us hard in attack. And one being the change in system to a 4 man back line that just didn’t work.

We are now back to the tried and trusted 343 system. And we have what looks like a decent replacement for Raul.

Unless our run of injuries continues I thank the remainder of the season will see a change for the better

They spent £300m. Wolves are now self sufficient. Nuno bought a pile of duds, including a young Rodney Trotter for £35m out of the Jota money.

Blame Nuno, not Fosun.

posted on 31/1/21

Yeah that's right, blame Nuno the feckin moron knows nothing.
Nuno out, Herbert in because Unc knows

posted on 31/1/21

And there you go Gem, what you are saying is far more relevant. Fans are very quick to say we should have done this or we should be doing that.

Maybe sometimes they may even have a point. But in reality I wouldn't trust them anywhere near the decision making process.

Nuno may not be perfect (nobody is) but have far more faith in him sorting it out, than the numpties criticising him.

There's a few factors at play contributing to the current mess, it does look as if last season is catching up with us now resulting in injuries and lethargic performances.

I think there was an expectation and assumption when we sold Jota and Doherty that there would be a two or three first eleven ready quality signings but with apologies to Marcal only Semedo could fit that description. As a result the squad is now weaker than it was this time last year. So Fosun didn't do enough there for me in the summer window. Add a couple of previous poor windows where we've failed to strengthen in key areas and you've got the potential for problems. We've ridden our luck for a year or more but injuries, tiredness and poor form have caught up with us now and exposed a lack of good squad management.

You can't blame Fosun for the injuries or the long season but you can blame them for not mitigating against them and blowing money on a player who looks a long way from being ready for this league.

Our problem for a long time now has been the lack of creativity coming from our midfield. We have bought defenders, wing backs and forwards, both young and old. What we haven't done is strengthened our midfield, especially with a creative player or two.

No reason why we couldn't have got a loan signing in that position this month.

As a footnote, Cutrone has officially gone to Valencia on loan today.

A very simple answer. No they haven't done enough, the last few windows have been pretty awful and anyone saying that the break even strategy this window was good enough needs to wake up.

Fosun came in with the big claims about breaking the top six, so it isn't the fans fault for having those expectations. Unfortunately it is quite clear Fosun have changed their plans, even last year they sent out an SOS asking for new investors and presumably the rumours about China not allowing spending actually carry some weight.

As for Silva, I said at the time it felt like a transfer smacking of arrogance, as if we were now a club that had made it to the big time and could afford such luxuries. Well it is now clear it was a horrible piece of business and anyone saying they see something in Silva is full of shat, he is clearly not good enough and won't be for a long time if at all and the scary thing is we are going into the second half of the season with him as our only back up ffs.

Seems also that we have a problem with who is calling the shots these days and has anybody stepped in to fill the void of Dalrymple, Thelwell or others, it doesn't feel like it and sees like Shi has a lot of control. Cutrone as one example of a signing it appears Nuno didn't even want.

I remember a year ago fans banging on about Campana as well, yeah another great bit of business apparently. Turns out he was pushed through the ranks at a young age due to a wealthy family.

Silva
Vitinha
Ait-Nouri
Marcal
Semedo
Toti
Sarkic
Hoever
Cutrone
Jordao
Neto
Podence

That is our work up until this window, that is three windows after finishing the seventh best club in England. Good enough? Of course it isn't, its a freakin shambles for the most part. Neto the shining light of course, the rest? Mostly failures so far or at the very least downgrades on what we had already(see Semedo).

Thankfully this window due to the fact Jimenez had a horror injury we were actually forced to do something we should already have done, bring in a player ready to perform rather than one we need to cross our fingers for. Too little too late of course as we just wasted two months on an experiment and sadly we will suffer the knock ons from that in the summer as we undoubtedly lose a top talent or two that will have seen clearly that the direction of the club has changed.

Oh and add Vallejo to that list

posted on 1/2/21

Failures, they are all still in nappies.

It is a long term project, to call them failures is ridiculous.

Can’t get excited about the shambles as people like to call it. We’ve had a list of injuries that very few clubs would have been able to cope with and the mistake of moving from a defensive system that worked to one that didn’t. But for that it would have been another season in the top half of the premier league in a season where many of those moaning said they would be happy with mid table as we transition from the team that got us to the top flight to one that can try to step higher than 7th
