Most of these players were playing under Poch so I don't believe in there not good enough, well bar Sanchez and Sissoko there just waaank.

They got top 4 finishes CL finals, other Cup finals. The manger is the culprit here, and thats the bottom line cause Hitler said so.

You're probably right Ed.

But I can't recall Dier playing as our main centre back in those days and Davies being our first choice left back.

Disagree with the player's being that problem, as Hitler has said these players were getting top 4 every year.

I think our squad is much better than it was when we came 4th and got to the CL final.

Once again for Jose it is the players letting him down. It happened at Chelsea, at Madrid, at Chelsea again, at United and now at Spurs. There is one common denominator in all of these, THE PLAYERS.

The players need to take the responsibility as after all it's not Jose's job to make them play well as individuals or as part of a team.

Hopefully Jose starts calling out the players soon as he did at previous clubs. Got to feel for Jose, every club he has gone to, the players have let him down.

Excellent article and good points.

Our squad is so, so bad at the moment, I think Jose is actually doing a good job in where we are at in terms of a cup final and league.

@Hitler, the same squad that was performing poorly before Poch got sacked? The team was very bad that Jose inherited bar a few obvious players.

As fans we over-rate our squad and players too much. I did this too at the beginning of the season big time!

As much as you raise a valid point, this has happened in all of Jose previous jobs also. No coincidence.

Totally agree. Some fans are blind. as bad as they might think our players are. They are still better than Newcastle, Brighton, West Ham, Palace and Leicester’s squad. All teams we have been dominated by or failed to take maximum points.

I don't agree. I think the only players that simply aren't good enough are Hart, Davies, Sissoko and Lamela. The rest - in the right system, with a bit of confidence and in their best roles - can all be good enough for a top 4 side. Even players like Aurier, Doherty, Sanchez, Lucas - they've all performed pretty well before in different setups that played better to their strengths.

I still hold out hope that Winks would look good in a possession-based system.

We have enough quality in the squad to challenge for the top 4 I reckon. The first team when everyone is fit is actually pretty good, it's a very good spine - Lloris, Toby, Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Kane/Son. Outside of the spine then it becomes more average, apart from Reg, and is more or less second string type quality. That's where Sissoko, Dier, Sanchez, Doherty, Berg, Bale, Lamela, Rodon, Winks, Lucas etc. come in. Some of this lot can drift between being good and bad on a given day and a few just seem to be consistently bad. Some like Berg and Rodon look alright and could go on to be 1st team quality, and others never will be like Lamela.

It's all about making the 1st team all as good as that spine is, and then when they get injured having someone that can come in who looks equally like 1st team quality. It gets complicated cause obviously newer players need time to improve and it's hard for anyone to improve when they aren't given time and football by being on the bench or underused. But right now we can start by getting rid of the ones that we know are simply never going to improve like Lamela and Davies.

I realise that Jose is deeply unpopular on here but I doubt very much that he told a bunch of highly paid Internationals to make sure they were completely outfought by Brighton and not work their keeper until the last few minutes.

The players should not be exonerated for Sundays shocking performance, it shouldn't matter if Christopher Biggins is the manager there is no excuse for not putting a shift in.

Jose inherited Lloris, Toby, Kane, Son, Dele, Ndombele, Lo Celso who are all very good players.

He has been able to add PEH, Rodon, Reguilon, Vinicius, Bale and Bergwijn who as you’d say are also a good crop of players.

You also have some decent squad options in Lucas, Doherty, Aurier, Winks. Not top players but not bad for squad fodder.

Yes, there is some cack there - Sissoko, Dier, Davies, Sanchez, Lamela.

But I would say a team of

__________Lloris
Aurier___Toby__Rodon__Reguilon
____Ndombele_PEH
Bergwijn__GLC_______Son
_________Kane

With Hart, Doherty, Dier, Davies, Winks, Dele, Bale, Lucas, Vinicius on the bench

should be doing a hell of a lot better than it is. But they are not well drilled, we do not play to their strengths ie the attack has got top quality but the defence is average (therefore Jose goes uber defensive to add more layers of protection, negating the attacking talent that could win us the games if unleashed).

When I watch us play I see a team that is disorganized, lacks identify or a defined style of play, is one dimensional, is very ugly and negative, and that reacts continuously to the opposition - line ups, formations etc. Klopp doesn’t constantly chop and change the whole 11, or the formation to suit every opponent (and then tear it all up at HT), he has a defined style that is instilled into the squad and they execute it. None of our players appear to know what they are doing. The 2nd half against Liverpool and the whole game against Brighton it was impossible to identify what our game plan was, there were no tactics or strategy or anything, just hoof and hope. And we couldn’t even do that well because Jose hadn’t fielded our only fit striker, the only guy who could bring the ball down and hold it up.

I’m sorry but it’s an absolute shambles and the buck stops with the manager. When you’re brought in as an experienced elite level coach on huge money with a remit to turn things around, get back into the top 4 and win silverware then, 16 months later if the team looks worse than when you took over you have to be held to account.

Jose Out.

Our only identity is Kane dropping deep and knocking through balls over the defence for Son.

Mourinho has had 15 months here and has been given 7 new players (8 if you count Ndombele being like a new player, and Gedson doesn't count). You'd think there'd be some level of improvement by now? He'd have some degree of sympathy from me if they weren't really players he wanted, but that's been a theme for a lot of our managers seemingly, and it's still decent squad to work with.

I agree with what you say.

My point, which I probably didn't get across very well, is that sometimes (scratch that, loads of times!) I see our players getting such basics wrong. Like misplaced passes, not being in the right position, making inexplicably wrong decisions (see Dier and Lloris for the goal conceded before half time against Liverpool as an example) and at some point they have to take some of the blame.

Yes, the buck absolutely stops with the manager, but professional players that have nothing else to have to concentrate on but play football, should be trusted to be able to get the basics right and it feels that the weak mentality, that we all knew existed long before Jose rocked up, is still holding us back.

That performance was the players throwing Jose under the bus that he has been asking them to park.
Fall out with too many players at once and thats what happens.
