We're due to thrash someone, why not that lot on Friday?

Yep. Put his price up today though...

What's that saying "a good racehorse, jumps as high as it needs to"???

I think this has been Roo's mantra in our search for mid table mediocrity. N Friday we won't see anything different. Just try and be slightly less dull, monotonous and mediocre than them.

Not sure what the long term plan is, in terms of Roo's preference for a dominant style but results are proving he's onto something at the moment. Prolly the first manager in a while whose put footballing principles and style of play on the back burner.

Rooney has figured out how to make the best of what he’s got. He’s been the opposite of Cocu in that respect. Lampard also knew how to make the most out of his players, but he had better players. I find it surprising that a player who had so much technical skill and ability can fashion a team that favours function over flair. All credit to him.

Good assessment, Vidal

Yeah think it's the Fergie and Van Gaal effect maybe.

Ironically though we're starting to see Buchanan, CKR, Knight and possibly Byrne play more football, than they were under Cocu.

Particularly impressed with Knight, really growing into that number 8 role n now getting the confidence to start looking up, when not drawing fouls and attacking space.

Joz I'd like to see more footy from n by more I mean less touches and more passes to another player, preferably in white.

What's happening with Tom Lawrence and Jordan Ibe watch???

Vidal ... Rooney was born with ability that few can ever hope to possess. What he also did as a player was work his socks off. Sometimes, in my opinion, to the detriment of the team - when he went too deep looking for the ball. The one thing I never criticised him for as a player was not working hard. He seems to have got that into the players very quickly. They are as hard working as I've seen a derby team for a long time. 90% perspiration, 10% inspiration isn't it?

Morning After View :
Well, a workman like performance from the Rams tonight. Whilst Rooney admitted to getting his initial selection wrong we still were able to go into half time in front.
George Edmundson looks a very capable player and its hard to pick between him and Clarke. He can feel a bit agrieved at being subbed.
Whilst we may not be showing 'flair' we are definately now somewhat hard to beat. I think the management team are making the most of what they have at their disposal atm.
So, on to the game. I thought as a unit we played well and tbh I dont think there are many teams in this league who play with flair and who regularly win games. Every game is tight. Again I thought the back line played well and also the midfield too. Shinnie was back to his best, as was Bird too. But my mom is Knight simply for being everywhere and not really putting a foot wrong all game. I feel Gregory hasn't yet found himself in this team and was quiet - and also Joz too when he came on was equally 'subdued'. I was pleased for Waggy tonight. He often gets isolated stuck out on the right, but last night he seemed to drift more into the centre and scored a goal Phil Gee would have been proud of - racing on to a ball from the half way line supplied by our talisman ckr. He still had a lot to do but buried it well.
I was also pleased our 2 ex-Rams did not come back to haunt us as Will Hughes did the other night. Holmes never got into the game - only to take long throws. Keogh too (I think) played Waggy on-side to score.
So all in all, again not a classic - but another welcome 3 points thank you very much and what - 8 points between us and the dreaded R zone.
So on to the Reds who I see did not slip up on our banana skin Rotherham and also gained 3 points. An interesting game will no doubt ensue....

Think Edmundson was subbed because Rooney didn't think he could last 90 minutes. He is a bit on the beefy side. Waghorn scoring from a 1 to 1 with the goal keeper, a first. Think he is ok if he doesn't get too close to the keeper and have to think about what to do.

Rumour has it they both been on the Columbian marching powder!

Terry thanks for a good report. I think you already know that the lovely Will Hughes is several hemispheres better than Holmes and RK..

It was nice to see Keogh playing again after such a bad injury caused by one of your Columbian marchers.

Whatever you think of who was to blame for the accident and the fallout afterwards, you have to give Keogh a lot of credit for managing to rebuild his career having been without a club and with what seemed at the time to be a career-threatening injury. Even those of us who didn’t rate him particularly highly will surely agree that he has done really well to get back to this level.

He still stuffed the club for compensation after being offered (and shunning) a lifeline originally.

He can get stuffed.

That’s why I said “No matter what you think of who was to blame for the accident and the fallout afterwards” Scouse. I can see both sides of the argument there. I don’t think either player or club emerged with much credit. I suppose it’s to be expected that fans will interpret events according to their pre-existing prejudices.

Yeah I don't think Keogh wanted it to end the way it did at Derby. Was a good servant and player for us.

Good point Hennessy about not many teams playing with flair this year, Bommo, Brentford and Swansea perhaps the most passing of the teams. I think Gregory suffered from our set up a bit last night. Having to chase out wide as we were getting done on the wings and then getting no service when Knight went into a three man MF. I'd like to see him up top on his own against a team that gives us space but hard to drop the leg at the moment.

Thought Udders went from a top 6 side at the start of the game to a relegated side without a paddle at the end.

posted on 24/2/21

Yeah credit to Rooney and the coaching team for that last bit. After the first ten minutes we contained them very easily.

posted on 24/2/21

The Keogh prior to the car crash injury would probably have caught Waghorn before he could shoot. When those long legs got going they could cover some ground in a short time.

I noticed Byrne made the tackle that almost certainly stopped them scoring from point-blank range very early on.

What a signing he's turning out to be.
