Yeah I think the most disappointing thing is that knowledge that he has the ability to be a top player but doesn't seem to want to kick on and make the most of his talents. At times I wondered if it was just his surly demeanour clouding my judgement somewhat, but his effort levels aren't what's required and it's hampering us

Needs a prolonged spell out of the side in league games anyway imo. I’d start him Thursday but then drop him for a while.

bloody annoying isn't it? i thought he was our best player post-lockdown last season, even started to score a few of the classic no.9's poachers' goals in the 6 yard box - was it sheff utd when rashford have him a couple of drilled assists? - and began to convince the doubters (well, rosso) that he could function as a more typical striker.

no idea what to make of him this season, i decided early on that this year was a freak one, and probably best not to make too many harsh judgments on players, but ordinarily you'd be thinking about selling him. but with the other transfer needs we have, and what will be a very limited budget, i'd guess he will stay, unless a really juicy offer comes along.

I wouldn't get rid for the simple fact he can play well on the left and cover the striker position where our other option is a 34 yr old. I have backed him on here a lot and last season he was definitely proving his doubters wrong but he has definitely regressed massively and bar a couple of games he has been very disappointing. You can forgive him for poor performances but never forgive for effort levels. He loses the ball then makes no attempt to win it back. Under the likes of Pep, Klopp, Fergie he wouldn't get a sniff in the team with the effort or lack of he puts in. I would honestly put Greenwood upfront if Cavani isn't available and stick him on the bench then see how he reacts

Id give him the benefit of the doubt until next season aat least.

some players probably thrive playing in front of crowds and some it will undoubtedly effect worse than others.

as said above, its been somewhat of a freakish year

He's been abysmal. Clearly unhappy with another striker coming in and giving him competition. That speaks so much about how little character he has. Good players should be motivated by competition not put off.

I'd sell this summer if we can find a buyer. He's always going to be a decent player and nothing more. We won't win titles with him in the side.

4 league goals from a Manchester United number ‘9’..
Totally unacceptable.
Sell today .

The main problem for me is that he wants to be a number 9, but is clearly so much more effective running at defenders from the left, facing goal. He’s not the kind of player who thrives with his back to goal.

But we have so many options for the left hand side.
He did really well as a number 9 last season but it’s not worked this. The 3 game ban and little injury after that (I think?) really didn’t help to get his season going, and now it’s stalled completely

In all honesty, he has underwelmed, does not justify the amount we invested. Occasionally can wow but frustrates too often with his laziness, he's never a CF in a million years and lacks energy and work rate to be a quality wide player.

Currently is doing nothing but taking up valuable squad save. Probably reached a stage where the best solution is for both sides to part company.

I'm pretty sure he had a poor season when we signed Ibrahimovic, who also took his shirt number (i think). He has done the same following the signing of Cavani. I don't think he relishes competition for places which calls his mentality into question.

As previously said, we can all forgive bad performances, players are only human. But if you do have bad performances, you need to bring effort to compensate. His actions and body language doesn't show that.

I would stop short of actively trying to sell him just yet though.

Good job you were not around in 1998 when Ole only managed 6 league goals in the season.

It's not beyond question that he can recapture last year's form. Human psychology is a complex thing. But he has enough experience now that you'd hope to see a certain level of consistency. I don't think anyone would take to the streets if selling him freed up funds and squad space to bring in serious quality / competition in the forward positions.

When Zlatan joined he was previously playing left side and it was actually Rashford that Zlatan took the place of.

He was annoyed over a shirt number more than anything it seems.

Martial had already started the season badly before Cavani joined.

Cavani has been good but he hasn’t set the world on fire either. It’s not like he’s come in and taken Martial’s place immediately.

Feels like it’s been a waste of time investing all this time and money in him.

Shall we go full on sunken cost fallacy on him?

Cavani has put fantastic numbers up though. A goal/assist every 90 mins in the PL I believe, which is what we need our nine to be delivering.

He also brings a completely different dynamic with his movement and physical presence, knows how to draw defenders for his teammates, holds the ball up better than our other strikers...

Credit to him, he’s been far better than I expected.

Yeah same. And most surprisingly he’s stayed fit. In fact, that’s been the case for most of our footballers this season.

It's a double whammy too, as Rashy gets moved about while Martial is trying to get into form.

Rashy should be on the left for every game he is fit, then let Cavani and Martial battle it out in the middle and Greeners and James on the right.

If I remember correctly , Ole was part of a 4 striker option that Fergi had , Ole was the super sub we had .
Martial is not our sub...
He’s our main man...
Ole cost us a few Bob, martial cost us a bit more.
Ole was great for us ,
Martial has been shieet for us...

I've always been a big fan of Martial, on song he is pretty lethal and one of those who gets fans bums off seats.

One of the best parts of his game, his link up and one twos in and around the box is completely missing this season.

Maybe he is one of those who will just never fulfil their potential. I'm willing to give him another season, he's had a few niggling injuries this year and who knows how Covid is affecting people on an personal level.

I've no doubt the second we sell him he will do well wherever he goes
