In the NHL they have a protocol to follow after any head injuries. It includes a dark quiet soundless room, no video screens. And he doesn't get back on until all tests are taken.

Very young age relatively . McQueen was a great player for us, is a close friend of Joe Jordan(another great Leeds player) I believe.

From what I can gather CTE (and related neurodegenerative diseases) are a result of continuous impact trauma to the brain. Even with a helmet the brain will still bounce of the inner skull (imagine shaking a goldfish bowl with a fish in it).

Elongate this over the duration of a professional football player's career. There's going to be tens of thousands of impact traumas to the brain.

Vascular dementia indicates dementia from multiple cerebra-vascular events (aka, strokes or TIAs) over time, so the rudimentary pathology behind that would indicate that head trauma is less a risk factor and more the classic cardiovascular risk factors. I don’t know much about this guy but I can see he previously had laryngeal cancer, which is associated with smoking and obesity (two major cardiovascular risk factors).

he's been through it with cancer as well....from teh sound of it, he is in a bad way.

I heard also Mick Bates not well.

Just awful at these times for friends not to be able to see friends who aren't well.

I lost my own mother to vascular dementia just one hour into 2021; the decline was so quick and it’s painful to see.

Was just myself and my wife nursing her through it, something extremely tough and draining during these past months of coronavirus.

With just us for company and a doctor making visits, the family of Gordon McQueen have all my sympathies as they face this difficult time ahead.

Yep I feel your pain pal. Lost a mother in law just before lockdown, so managed to visit throughout the symptoms - so lucky in some respects. Horrible, horrible condition that is extremely difficult for family members to witness in a loved one. Feel for the family of Gordon like you.
