My missus was watching the game with me and several times she asked whether Paddy was on the pitch. Says it all really.

Yep, feeling a bit deflated this morning ... but that’ll soon pass and onto the next one.

Have a good day all๐Ÿ‘.

(ps I wish we could draw a game occasionally ...)

Oh yes, and the pitch looked awful.

Oh and another thing ... (blimey, this is like the Spanish Inquisition๐Ÿ˜) ... Llorente play-acting = embarrassing.

Right, I hereby promise to read the whole bloomin’ thread in one go from now on๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ†

You could see from the start with Struijk in the CDM role, that we were going to struggle to create. Mistake by Bielsa, in my view. Coops and Struijk together is better, put Lllorente or Dallas in there instead.
Very similar to the Brighton game, we started slowly, got hit by the early goal and never recovered. We are still learning how to win games like this, or even, to avoid defeat.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spot on. Struijk as CDM just does not work as has been proved in numerous games. We start slowly, lose control of the midfield, concede and then spend the rest of the game trying to break down an eleven man defence.
Bielsa seems intent on making Struijk into CDM when we can all see he is a good CB and should be allowed to develop in that role

really don't understand why Costa and Roberts are starting. Loyalty is great until results say it isn't.
---
They are playing for their future. Bielsa said last week Roberts has to show he deserves a place in the team not just because of injuries but his ability. Costa to be fair earnt his chance after Southampton.

Neither has stepped up, think they'll both be moved on in the summer.

Roberts still has his age going for him i suppose. Might be worth loaning him out, for him to get a good run of games?

I liked the look of Llorente even in his rusty debut against Chelsea. You can see we are more solid with him and he will suit our style. If we get Koch back, those two offer a very good defensive partnership with Cooper and Struijk as squad players

The midfield is where our issue is. We miss Phillips which is natural, but we have our winger in Raphinha as our only real creator. We urgently need a 10 to ease the pressure off him. We were after that De Paul and the French kid didn’t happen, so presume this is the key area in the off season

Costa has never really done it for me. Always flatters to deceive. I just don’t think he is that good. Harrison is one of those who starts and you wonder if you need better, then is benched and you want him in the side. We maybe need one more quality winger so Raph/Harrison/other are the options

The other area is that “Klich” position. Klich is a good player and has a great attitude and I appreciate he may have been playing with an injury but I feel he needs competition in that spot. We need depth and it gets shown up when he is missing whether that be on or off the pitch. I may get laughed at but Harry Winks is a good player whose gone stale at Spurs. He could fill that role supporting Phillips and the number 10, he’s young and experienced and a very tidy player when he has confidence

I enjoyed Bielsa's interview on Football Focas yesterday and it portrayed him as we all know as a very deep thinking calm and wise inspirational man.
However when he was questioned about his "El Loco" reputation he just smiled politely and expertly deflected away that nickname had any substance.

We have all fallen in love with his style and accepted his eccentricities and last night's team selection justification for it and after match defence of it and even saying we deserved to win was "El Loco" at his finest.

A disappointing match but one that may help bring some clarity to the areas and players who can continue with this journey at Leeds and the ones that will need to be improved upon.

A couple of interesting points from earlier posts.

Whilst at times I think Shaun can get a little carried away with the amount of signings he'd expect us to make given the resources we have I do generally think he makes some valid points. One of those is about Bamford. I feel whilst centre midfield and left back are the priority areas for the summer a rival for Bamford and as an option to mix it up when it's not quite working for him is important.

Bamford's had a phenomenal season but sometimes for a striker it needs changing and top sides will refresh their strikers mid game when on occasions. Also worth remembering that he missed 75 % of the 18/19 season with two long term knee injuries so you can't always assume he is going to be fit for every game.

I also think Jaz's points on Roberts and Costa are fair. Will be tough for some to hear but when you have the aspirations the club have and you are trying to take things to the next level loyalty and sentiment you have to take some tough decisions on who can get you there and who may not. For me Roberts doesn't. Costa I would be prepared to give a bit more time and see how pre-season goes. Harsh but football is a tough business.

I can imagine that Orta will be busy at the moment putting the feelers out there for potential summer recruits and am excited to see who we go for.

Still 12 games to go and futures and points to be fought for to see who can still remain a part of this.

About Costa...

Seem to remember that when he first came to us a Wolves fan posted that he'd been brilliant for them in their promotion-winning season and then rubbish once they were in the Premier League. He suggested that he was one of those that simply wasn't quite PL standard.

It looks to me as if we're discovering the same. He was at fault for the third Everton goal, having just come on (albeit he scored at the other end), then he was at fault for the Villa goal yesterday. Seems to me that his focus is somewhat shaky at the beginning.

I think struijk has been a revelation this season, to be 5th choice centreback, maybe even 6th, and make a place in a team battling for a top half finish is quote an achievement in itself.

He looks good, however he isint a defensive midfield player and Leeds will need to deal with that when the transfer market is reopen.

Personally I think llorente should have played there. I dont think struijk have that passing range and vision needed for the holding role, Llorente on the other hand, fo back and watch his pass for the first goal against Southampton, its actually a peach of a pass. Now that's the sort of pass you expect your holding midfielder to do and it directly leads to the assist for our first.

agree with all this. was i dreaming this or did bielsa himself say that llorente would be perfect to fill in for when kp is missing. been happy overall with the
struijk /cooper pairing. i just want to see players playing in their best positions and marcelo is trying to find what works best. so easy in retrospect to think well that didn't work, but we wont know till we try.

this pitch of ours is hurting us more than the opposition.
would rather play all our games on the road.
i know why some like roberts but ive never felt that he wont be one of the first players upgraded.
on to the next game but i still feel its the pitch hurting our chances of putting a run together more than any other aspect.

Costa and Roberts are the two players most fans have issues with. Costa's lack of concentration and sharpness was to blame for the yesterday's goal, and his poor defending has also cost us the other odd goal. But he has a saving grace in that he creates chances for others and, importantly scores a few (3 this season).
Roberts, for me, is invisible much of the time and though he's regularly found himself in great positions to score, he has failed to put the ball in the net every single time (goals this season = 0). The assist to Bamford last week was an amazing pass but it was a one-off. After fluffing his chances again yesterday, in the second half he struggled to both pass and keep hold of the ball. A year out at another club may be the answer, long term, but for now let's leave him out of the team – he's just not good enough.

Agree re comments on Bamford.

Is Rodrigo meant to be that competition?

If I was Leeds I would make a bid for Haaland.

With his goals and profile, we'd be flying.

Now, if we can just qualify for the Champions League.....

Are there any indications of how much Haaland might cost?
I suspect his value is rapidly heading towards nine digits with the press he's been getting. Way outside our price range most likely.

Would of course be the perfect player for us.

Personally I'd look at Saint-Maximin as one target this summer. He's used as a winger I think at the moment, but perhaps Bielsa could slot him into the Roberts/Klich role. He'd scare a lot of defences in the middle.

Hard to comment on the game with the pitch in the state it is but I did see over the weekend a chart showing how many games each club had lost players due to injury and we were 3rd with 122, Palace were top

Roberts also put that great ball through v Wolves when Bamford’s knee hair was offside.

He has it in him and is still young enough to progress. Not sure he’s a long term prospect though.

Point taken. I think he’s got the talent and that a season of game time in the Champ can only help.

With Roberts for me it depends on our spending in the summer.

As a minimum I'd expect us to bring in a leftback a defensive midfielder and a central midfield player.

If thatw as the case then Roberts stays as he will be useful to have around.

However you start to bring in an additional midfielder or two then I would question his use to the squad.

Agreed! It all depends on what we spend and in what positions. Does Bielsa see him as work in progress? I mean who thought Dallas, Ayling, Harrison would progress so much? Cooper and Struijk too?

Maybe MB sees something in some players that he just knows he can improve.
