This worries me because surely Bruno won't be happy with Coutinho dropping into his space and Greizmann hogging the ball on the left? We should concede far fewer from set pieces though with Ter Stegen coming for crosses. Overall good news.

In a statement, Barcelona said the police searches related to the "contacting of monitoring services on social networks".

hardly to do with finances

You’re right. The search was done after a financial investigation. And the headline could well be misleading by the BBC. “Barcelona: Catalan police make several arrests over financial issues at Spanish club”.

It's to do with Bartomeu allegedly hiring some Uruguayan social media company to create bots that would discredit certain barca players, staff and others associated with the club like Pep and Xavi.

they should fold the club
they can then reform and start again in the regional divisions of spanish football (4th tier)

these catalans think they're some how "better" than other Spaniards. More mainstream european, more business like and less corrupt

and yet irony is...they show more of these traits than any other spaniards ......

Yes this scandal shows that the Catalonian people are less mainstream European and Less business like than the rest of Spain

Barca are apparently £1bn in debt and about £250m of that has to be repaid by the end of the season.

They have a wages to revenue ratio of 70-75% which is not sustainable (and exceeds La Liga rules)

They still owe big bucks for Coutinho and DeJong and no one in the summer will be willing to pay the +£100m they paid for Dembele and Greizmann.

Messi will also leave for nothing this summer which, together with their recent decline, will only undermine their status further.

This sort of negative publicity also deters major sponsors etc.

I think we will see a period where Barca are a fringe team within the big hitters of Europe. A major rebuild needed.

To be quite frank - Laporta saved us about 20 years ago. We brought in Ronnie and restructured all our debt. We had the gift of a fabulous youth team and we managed to sell our image playing pretty football. But behind the scenes, we've continued wasting money - Ibrahimovic - not a Barça style player, Coutinho - not Barça style, Dembele - not Barça style ... and the list is long. Our wage bill is huge and we lose players for little or no money. Since Guardiola and Laporta left, our on-field and off-field models have been awful. What happened to Liverpool in the 90s is happening to us now. Sad to see my Barça sink.

This won't happen. One of the reasons behind our successes in Spain is the government's favourable tax treatment towards sports stars. Madrid have even more help from government - they were gifted the land around the stadium which was public and then these lands, which before could not be developed were re-qualified by the right wing governments a decade ago and Madrid made a fortune. I often read things about politics here but if you don't know, you shouldn't speak.

BUT this is NOT the only reason Barça are struggling now - financial mismanagement before and after Laporta are to blame.

Spanish football with Barcelona would be dead. Real Madrid would also suffer greatly. Barcelona's crime is not being bailed out consistently by the government.
