The levels system is at least based on science. Like the fact that ordering a meal with your pint scares covid away. Who are we to question this? Are any of us scientists?

This 'science' that people bandy about like it can't be challenged - what you really mean is modelling based on certain input criteria and modelling assumptions almost all of which can be whatever the fck you want the answer to be and as far as I can see have zero balance with economic modelling?

Last March and periodically through the last year people have commented on how much a life is worth to society. Government have these calculations but for some reason have thrown them out the window?

Whether, the answer is £1m, £6m, 1% on tax, 5% on VAT or whatever it is a conversation that ought to be being had with the electorate.

Fatal is £556,660 cost in lost output, £1,080,760 in human cost, £970 in medical/ambulance giving a total of £1,648,390 total cost per death.

These are for deaths in my field of economics. Probably outdated now though.

I done a almost useful comment

A bit random but what ghod said earlier about Yemen and Saudi - been reading wee snippets of news from around the world and it’s feckin mental the stuff thats happening elsewhere - was reading about the border guards between India and China in a constant stand off - they’re not allowed to carry weapons in case it all kicks off but regularly clash and use stones and ‘nail-studded clubs’! etc there was a story a wee while back where around 30 were killed between both sides - mostly from being chucked aff the cliff ffs

Well I am a scientist and I can tell you labeling all the variants with where they were first discovered hides the truth that in fact this virus mutates regardless of international travel. Its what viruses do. And of course, it also knows when there are more than people in house especially if they happen to be footballers.

i find the argument week when people demand schools are shut though ginger, long term children are the class more likely to suffer from isolation.

a little example is the number of kids who won't have had interactions with grandparents, staying over, attachment issues.

the more "good" attachments a child has, the better, it allows them safe bases they can return to and it lets them explore the world knowing that base is there.

Right now many have 1, maybe 2 parents that they will become more "clingy" to as a result of the 24/7 attention.

I diverse, i just can't take it seriously when people use mental health as their reason but demand schools are shut.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that's bollix
----------------------------------------------------------------------

which part?

that isolation is damaging for child development?

attachment theory?

backed up by thousands of studies mate.

mate 70 year olds fought in world war 1 when they were 10 years old. Our generation of kids are being told to stay in and play pokemon to protect them, which they were all doing anyway. Kids these days need to grow up.

I don't support the SNP , but I think it's safe to say your arguments seem to stem from a hatred towards them rather than a more open minded outlook

Criticism of her would seem in the post no matter what choices she made . Of course I may be wrong but that's how your history reads

And the OP asks where does this leave crowds getting back to football ??
Yeah that must be such a priority in this current situation .

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Raising the issue of football crowds on a football forum.

Silly me.

Pokémon go actually encourages players to go outside and walk.

Someone needs to stop Nippy/The SNP right now.
----------

Just want to remind the OP that the people who can stop the SNP are the electorate. Happily there's an election in two months.

I got a flyer through the door saying "We're not the SNP". That was their only policy.

I like when the Tories tell us that the SNP need to stop talking about independence, and they keep telling us this at every opportunity, even when nobody is talking about independence the Tories like to talk to us about it, to the detriment of every other policy they might have

Indeed.

Not like we’ve any other priorities right now.

And then thankfully they can have a daily political broadcast disguised as a virus update while ignoring practically everything thrown at them from two very public and so far damning enquiries.

Thankfully all the ducks are in a row and they can concentrate on winning an election they couldn’t lose if they tried.

Then use that as the platform for independence with zero detail while ignoring that maybe half the population don’t want it.

Breaking: Staunch Tory believes independence is now 50/50.

The well known Tory stated on ja606 that be believes that half of the country now wants independence. This is up from the 45% who voted for it in 2014. The Tories have traditionally supported the union, but this revelation shows the Tories are acknowledging a growing support for independence and are increasingly talking about another referendum. As a government it should of course be both, but you know that.
