Used to work with an ardent United fan. One day he was out and we desperately needed to get into his computer, but didn’t know his password. Try CANTONA7 I said. You can guess the rest. Not voting cause I’m not a red, but surely only one winner here?

If you are talking about their time at your club, I would say Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney equal first. If you are talking about an overall career, I would say Ronaldo, for being a world class player in England, Spain and Italy.

I just can’t pick I’m afraid.
Growing up supporting United in the 90s, Eric was the greatest. Love the guy.
But Ronaldo came along and also had a massive impact on me and the club! Such an incredible player, it’s a shame we didn’t even see the best of him while at OT. Would still love to see him back for one final season.

Two iconic number 7s that I refuse to compare to each other. Can I vote 1 and 2?

5 and 4 even

Anyone can vote, it's all about opinion.
For me its Eric, I was a season ticket holder during the 90s and he had the biggest impact for me. We are where we are because of his huge influence.
Every player on that list is great, but the man with the collars up will always be my favourite

Five quite unique and unforgettable players, but it’s Eric for me.

Not the most naturally gifted, consistent or prolific of the five, but was the talisman that we desperately needed and triggered... well, we all know what he triggered. Still rewatch his videos, and what a character he is.

Five stars, has to be. My favourite player of all time.

Should get a bonus fifth star just for this:

I clicked on that, before my morning coffee, expecting a nostalgic montage of those familiar greatest goals. Now I feel like someone has woken from a deep sleep, haunted by confusing dreams, by shaking me violently.

Has to be Cantona for me too. Not just for the sublime things he did on the pitch (which others have matched). But he led us to the promised land with that mixture of swagger, charisma and (for want of a better way of describing it) a sort of yearning for transcendental that you only see rarely in an athlete. The most important single player of Ferguson's era at United, setting the tone for our dominance over two decades. Arguably, therefore, the most important player of the PL era overall (which is not to say the best).

In second place I'd have Robbo. When I was seven or eight years old I basically wanted to be him.

Eric would be my favourite from that lot probably because he helped kickstart United’s era of dominance

From a career point of view Ronaldo takes some beating, just been looking at the stats for all those players, just realised Ronaldo scored more goals than he made appearances when he was at Madrid, wonder if that’s ever been done before, and I don’t mean someone who’s played 2 games for a club and scored a hat trick

Ronaldo easy. All great players but he’s levels above.

I'm interested to know, does 'favourite' tend to mean the same thing as 'best' for you?

I can think of lots of examples of players who were less talented or contributed less than others, but who meant more to me. Sometimes this is about age (I think we tend to idolise players more as kids / young adults than later on), so Cantona will always be iconic for me in a way Bruno could never be, even if he had the same impact in leading us to glory. Sometimes it's a more instinctive thing. E.g. I believe a lot of Liverpool fans had a more visceral connection with Robbie Fowler than Michael Owen (even before the latter 'betrayed' them with his subsequent career choices). When Fowler scored, they felt like they were right there in the moment with him.

If we're asking who is the best player in that list, it's hard to answer anything other than Ronaldo. But he'd probably be in last place for me in terms of favourite players in the list. It was great to watch him represent us. Incredible what we could do with him in the team. But I always felt he was doing it for himself, not the team, not for us.

Talent wise, yes, that goes without saying, but the a fans favourite is different at many levels.

Was a little young to truly appreciate Eric, born in '88.

Always had a soft spot for Scholes to be honest. Loved him before the hype later on in his career.

Eric but that's largely due to being only 10-15 years old when he was at the club and being in awe of him.

He's also just cooler than any of them and there wasn't much of a decline with him like with someone like Rooney so when he left it was all very sudden and a little mysterious. He defintely isn't the best player to grace the PL but he is still the most influencial IMO.

I'd put Berbatov and Ronaldo on par as favourite players Utd to watch

I am a Tottenham fan, not a Utd fan so I don’t have a personal affinity with any of those players in relation to my experiences of supporting the club. My choice of favourite is based purely on which footballer I enjoyed watching the most, and the answer is Ronaldo.

Scholes would be second, exceptional talent. Cantona I appreciate why he’s a favourite among Utd fans , and he has some iconic moments to his name. He’d be third. I am less fussed by the other two, particularly Giggs.

If you asked me the same question about THFC my answer would be more informed by players I watched growing up going to WHL who arguably wouldn’t make the pantheon of all time greats, such as Ginola for example.

That makes sense.

Now I'm trying to think about who my favourite Spurs players have been over the years. Quite possibly Modric. Currently I'm a huge admirer of Son, and can't quite understand why he isn't a bigger superstar.
