Apparently the average nurse wage is £34k? Not sure what I expected cos we tend to only hear about the student nurses lower pay. I’m also not sure what qualifications are required nor how hard it is to advance but there’s a lot of them - 670k apparently?
Would have been better to freeze all non NHS public sector pay to give them a larger rise. And also cut funding for business via furlough to give essential support services a much needed boost.

Difficult to do when the pay rises come out of the pash poor pot we're 'given' by Westminster to pay for everything.

Get more per capita than England who generate 90% of the wealth. Pipe down FFS you entitled waaaaanker.

Kind of torn on this. On the one hand, 1% seems small. But it's all relative. Most public sector workers (myself included) aren't getting any pay rise for the next 4 years, full stop and a huge number of people are furloughed and are only receiving 80% pay. Relatively speaking, it isn't so bad
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In fairness, barley any of the private sector will see a pay increase either.

Not so sure. Wife just got 1.5% payrise and 5.5% bonus at her work.

Oh do go on.
Bonus is not part of your pay unless it is guaranteed. I’d love to hear your argument seeing as I hand out hundreds of bonuses and commissions on monthly, quarterly and annual bases as well as have one myself.
Banks will not take bonuses as part of your pay for mortgages or loans unless it is guaranteed.
Over to you.
‘Banks will not take bonuses as part of your pay for mortgages or loans unless it is guaranteed.’
That’s not strictly true-the amount of bonus they take into account depends on whether it’s guaranteed or not, and also if you can evidence receipt of previous amounts of bonus.
I do agree with your main point about bonuses though-if it was included as part of your pay then it would be included in pensionable earnings, which isn’t common.

Huh - hadn't realised that UK median salary was up over £30k now - decent. At least these people are doing something worthwhile with their degree with pretty much guaranteed employment which I am sure is part of the attraction for some. Not sure there's much advancement possible by the sounds of things, however?
Anything that is in your salary which isn't guaranteed is pay at risk.
If you earn a 100% bonus, then 50% of your pay is at risk.
It's not just "here's a random sum of money".

I think the added factor of risking your life to look after infected patients makes the job all that harder, plus many hours worked unpaid apparently.

I think she would happily say starting salary for a nurse should be a good bit higher than what she gets.

If you receive bonus as a regular amount at regular intervals then it can be considered as part of a pay and indeed an entitlement after a period of time.
But that’s way different to the notion of a bonus being part of pay.

And redundancies are happening all over the place.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True. So a 1% pay rise is pretty good, relatively speaking
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not so sure. Wife just got 1.5% payrise and 5.5% bonus at her work.
Payrise lower than usual but certainly better than she expected.
I wouldn't be surprised if I get something similar

5.5% bonus isn't telling the full story. Is she getting 100% of wherever pay she had at risk?
Bonus isn't just a present, it's just part of your pay that is at risk.

Good news will be when nhs Scotland do something more
12.5% is being requested
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Difficult to do when the pay rises come out of the pash poor pot we're 'given' by Westminster to pay for everything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Get more per capita than England who generate 90% of the wealth. Pipe down FFS you entitled waaaaanker.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yours is exactly the attitude we will get rid of when Scotland gets Independence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Honestly, will happily support an independent Scotland, a move out of the Union.
Subs and ships moved to England, Scotland dont want that potential problem. Then Scotland can adopt the Euro and apply for entry to EU.
Everyone wins.

Apparently the average nurse wage is £34k? Not sure what I expected cos we tend to only hear about the student nurses lower pay. I’m also not sure what qualifications are required nor how hard it is to advance but there’s a lot of them - 670k apparently?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You need a degree and starting pay for a staff nurse is around 26k

The Tories should have given them 3% and they would've probably accepted that. They deserve 10% tho.

Which is not far off what my wife gets for investigating insurance liability claims.
I think she would happily say starting salary for a nurse should be a good bit higher than what she gets.

If you receive bonus as a regular amount at regular intervals then it can be considered as part of a pay and indeed an entitlement after a period of time.
But that’s way different to the notion of a bonus being part of pay.
