Mason Mount Appreciation

Thank God, those fans because of Lampard have been made to eat their pies. If I had told them, we don't need Havertz then, they would have come for me.

Future captain for sure, having a great season.

Other attackers need to start contributing and performing at a similar level ASAP

I’ve always liked him but also felt somewhere in the middle of the Mason debates that sometimes happened. I really liked him but just didn’t think he’d reach a level good enough to be a key player in a title winning side, more a supplementary one.

Over the last few months I’ve come to do a 180 on this, I think he can be. Ask him to play any role and you’re near guaranteed at least 6-7/10 performances. His high energy and tenacity makes him useful in any game. Natural movement off the ball, good ability to strike the ball off either foot and particularly in recent weeks good close control/dribbling. And he could still improve further 😮

Mount is better than Lamps at his age....our most promising prospect in a decade or more

He has proven me wrong - hands up!

Like him. Plays the way young kids should play: go out there and show your skills!
He's fast becoming a threat for Chelsea.

Liked him after the first game I saw in full, knew he'd 'make it' to some degree. Played with a maturity which I value in young players above anything else, what immediately weeds out the boom & bust types. Beyond question my personal favourite of the young guys we've brought through recently, Gilmour's second but he's a distant second.

And lo & behold it seems he's not 'Lampard's son', he's just a very good player who any manager would rate & trust

I thought he might go the way of Harry Winks and just turn into a sideways passer who doesn't really contribute much.

Fair play to him though, he's shown a lot of character and looks a great player

I think like Declan Rice he's just genuinely gotten a lot better, rather than people being wrong with some of their initial criticisms (though I suppose you could argue that greeting these youngsters like they're already the finished product is wrongful criticism)

Gets far too much unwarrented criticism imo ... probably because he's a Chelsea player. People also forget how young he is and how much he can improve. Genuinely think he and Reece James have the potential to develop into top class players in a few years time.

At the same time Sidey I can see why people looked at say Foden, Grealish, Maddison and thought those players had more 'magic' or x factor or whatever it is that causes people to get carried away with young talent.

He isnt as openly flashy (or wasnt until now) as those guys and was more like the player that was going to get stuck in for the team. But the idea that he was only picked for his defensive work was silly when you see what he can offer in attack

Nah there were plenty of people who were 100% wrong about him, who judged him far too soon based on far too little actual knowledge of him.

I’m just glad he’s now shutting people up.

But it's his work ethic that sets him apart from these players. How many times have we seen him track back, or intercept a ball on the edge of his own box? Yes, he's a very good attacking player, but what makes him just a little more "special" is that he has the enthusiasm to put in a shift for the team. Some players, like Ziyech, are great when you've always got the ball but in those hard games when you're defending, they often don't turn up. Mount always puts in a shift, he's a team player.

You also have to look at age and experience. Maddison and Grealish are 25 and 24, they have more experience. But the talent that Mount and Foden have MAY be greater - we have to wait and see how they develop.

He's been our best player this season but he doesn't need flashy goals to prove that. Not to me anyway.

I used to watch him in the academy games when he was a kid, before they scrapped CTV. I could see his talent but expected he'd go the same way as McEkkers, with the limited exposure to 1st team football our kids used to get.

Since he came back from Holland he's just been going up through the levels and at times last season and this, he's been carrying this team even at his tender years.

Take into account he's only just 22, he's years away from his peak at this moment in time and the potential for improvement is huge.

Easily our player of the season for me!
