I've been to dunblane quite a lot over the years. Tend to stay there if Celtic are playing at Perth and make a weekend if it.
Its incredible to think that something so horrific could happen in such a peaceful wee place.
I was 35 at the time. Now I'm an old man. HTF did that happen?
He was totally evil that bastirt.

I want to that school for 3.5 years. Certainly the best of the 4 I went to. Primary 3 - 7.

We lived in and owned the railway hotel (now the village) the Celtic bus from Perth used to stop there with contained my future wife and her family.

I lived in Cumbernauld when it happened, but my mum still lived in and ran the pub. I was in high school. The teachers all told the class there had been a shooting in Dunblane and involved the school. Asked everyone to think of/ pray for families.

No mobiles then of course, had no idea if it was any of my friends, was it just the school?

Ran straight home and picked up phone as soon as I got there.

Only a tiny fraction of what those involved and everyone in the community went through but gives you an Idea of how many it would have touched and affected

Spent time in Perth and Stirling as a lad, which is why this is so poignant for me 🌹

Perth is a cracking wee place. Good pubs as mighty will attest.

I have a friend who's mum was a teacher that day. Can't imagine how his family would have felt.

Unbelievable mate.
It's how I feel about the Ibrox disaster. My brother was at the game and we didn't know he was ok until he came home later that night.
The younger generations these days cant even imagine that. It's a horrible situation.

As for your earlier post...been in the Village Inn a couple of times. Good pub.
I prefer the Riverside in Dunblane though. Great wee boozer to take the wife...assuming you want to take her anywhere.

God bless all involved

I’ve seen a few documentaries on this and can’t bear to think what those poor kids and teachers went through.

Truly shocking and heartbreaking.

RIP to all those sweet angels and their teacher. I was roughly 7 when it happened so wasn’t far off their age, so obviously remember it well. The recent documentary with Loraine Kelly was very sad.

It's crazy, not having phones and internet then. Horrible events like that were even scarier as you couldn't check on people or get updates.

Think the Riverside was the Stirling arms when I was a boy.

They have a cracking veranda just off the bridge overlooking river.

I used to jump off that bridge when I was a wee boy. Went recently and thought wtf was I doing.

One of our regulars broke his leg doing it one summer.

Sitting in the pub with stookie on guy goes to him bet you won't do that again.

How much?

£20

Gie me a bin bag. Off he went.

Came back and soaked but in one piece, drank the £20. Few other punters bought him a drink.

Some characters in that pub

An absolute monster granted permits to buy and use guns and ammunition. He was armed to the teeth with thousands of rounds.

It doesn't get any worse than killing kids.

Thankfully the law in this country and other countries was changed to stop this ever happening again.

I'm all for living in a free and just world, I just don't think the average person should have access to firearms.

RIP kids

Meanwhile in America...

Really shocking, too young at the time to really register fully but it’s one of those that your remember where you were when it happened.

Agreed. Don’t get me wrong, any killing or murder is sick, but I think killing children and raping/killing women is about as evil and low one can get

Unfortunately America will never change, their country was build on firearms, it's forged into their psyche.

And thus, many more will be murdered in mass killings.

Whilst the mass shootings get the media attention in the US a much much bigger issue is the suicides by firearm - almost 2x the homicides. Probably because it is too convenient at 1.2 guns per head of population.

The guy that bet the £20 in the story above lost one of his children. Just horrific, he actually saved my mum's life once too.

Its impossible to imagine how somebody does it the 1st time. But to keep going. Stop and reload. Just horrid.

Me and my brother were in the scouts and BB in dunblane. I think he had been banned by both at that point but given the amount of private youth clubs he was involved in I'm sure paths probably crossed. Still gives me the creeps.

I remember reading the statistics and laughing, but also feeling really sad too..at the fact when the full extent covid struck, lots of Americans went out to buy...guns.

I mean what they going to do, shoot the virus? It’s so heavily ingrained in their psyche that the first thing they do is arm up.

Madness.
