Mourinho's finished, why would the BBC pundits put his team in the top four?
Sandy, those predictions were based entirely on the form we showed under Jose for most of the previous season. That's not our ceiling. It's our ceiling under Jose. That's why they've quite rightly come to those conclusions. The fact that we achieved top 2, 3 and 4 in the previous 4 seasons prior to Jose coming on board suggests we have a squad capable of getting there. It just won't happen under Jose.
Who am I kidding though. You won't be convinced by any of this. Not my answers, not anyone's.

I wish posters would just stick to the article. On why not one of 25 pundits had Spurs to finish Top Four.
Spurs are exactly where they should be this season. Anything higher would be a bonus.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's before the season though.
None of those 25 have Leicester to finish in the top 4 either, do you think Leicester would be happy if they finished outside the top 4 now? Given that they've been in there all season and have looked a very good side throughout the season? I know I wouldn't be.
Similar scenario with Spurs. I know much more of the season has been played since Spurs fell off a cliff, but we were talking about Spurs potentially winning the league in the first third of the season, to finish outside of the top 4 after having that label slapped on you would be disappointing. And yes, that applies to Liverpool as well.

Nah, those predictions would have been exactly the same under the last manager that Spurs had, who had Spurs sitting in 13th and plummeting when he left. So why would any pundits have put Spurs in the top four, even if Jose was not the manager?
Anyway be interested to see everyone`s predictions for next season if a new manager is in place, with this super duper squad that apparently Jose cannot motivate.
I would be very surprised if any of you would put Spurs down for finishing any lower than 3rd. After all a new manager Spurs will hardly drop a point.
I shall ask for everyone`s predictions before the start of next season, with the new manager in place.
Sandy less of the bluster or rather goading.
The vast majority of Spurs fans were all in agreement at the start of the season, that for Jose CL qualification was a expectation. Especially given how much Levy backed him. Less of trying to get a raise out of your own. Seems to be all you do these days. Try and get back to your BBC days of actually being subjective.

Actually I don't think they will. I think most spurs fans will be fine with, say, Europa League qualification under the next manager if some level of progression is made on the pitch. If we get a sense that, for instance, Nagelsmann is showing signs that we're on an upward trajectory, finishing in the top 4 in his first season won't be a must. The issue under Jose is not where we're sitting in the league as we're still only 3 points off the top 4. It's that we can all see with our own eyes that performances are poor, results even worse, patterns of play don't exist, the football itself is a difficult watch and divisive splits are occurring within the squad.

Why was it an expectation at the start of the season, when they were up against Liverpool, City, Chelsea who had spent £200 million, United etc. There is no way Spurs could be guaranteed top four, and the pundits saw it that way as well.

If finishing in the top four in his first full season is a must for Jose, then why would it be any different for any new manager, unless supporters have an agenda against Jose.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why, Spurs were in 13th and plummeting fast, no away Prem win for months, when Poch were as the club. Why would any manager keep his job with that poor record. Poch is hardly pulling up any trees at PSG, he has taken his Spurs form there, with so much better players, he will be lucky to win a league PSG win every single year. Not winning that league, and getting dumped out of the CL, could signal a very early departure for Poch at PSG.
PSG certainly will not hesitate to sack him, if he doesn`t win one or both of the major trophies they are after.
Sandy
Fair enough if you think Spurs are where they ought to be.
But what was the purpose of your articles saying we’d win the title then? Were these all written in jest (I saw no evidence of this when I read them), and will any future such articles all be in jest ?
Forgive me for saying but you seem to change your opinions when it suits or to avoid being contradicted, as reality dictates
Always brings up that 13th place thing. City were bottom half after 9 games this season, this was off the back of a poor season last year. Would you have sacked Pep then?

Because you play the hand you're dealt at the time of your arrival. When Jose came we were a club consistently finishing in the top four and had only just been in a CL final 5 months before. A lot has changed in 18 months. In my opinion (I have to add that before you start screaming) we've regressed hugely since. Jose inherited a happy CL squad. He'll leave a decimated Europa League squad bereft of confidence. That's why the remit will be different. If you apply your logic that's like saying Alex Ferguson won the league in his final season in 2013 so anything short of league dominance from OGS eight years later is a disaster. Squads and prospects change depending on how low they've fallen under the previous manager. First, any new manager coming in will need to coach well, recruit well, see the results begin to emerge on the pitch before we can even think about becoming a CL club again. That takes time. If the new manager, whoever that may be sees us take another downward trajectory like the current manager, he'll be out too. This is not a Jose witch hunt. It's careful consideration of the facts. Any other manager producing the kind of results and performances Jose has, would have been long gone by now. The only reason he's still there is because Levy knows that sacking him now will mean paying him off in full. Sacking him at the end of the season having not fulfilled his rumoured contractual obligation of getting us in the top four and that pay off shrinks massively. He's many things Levy, but he's not daft.

Oh Sandy, your articles get more and more bizarre.
I think the issue most of us fans have is that after years of doing nothing, we had finally turned a corner We had some title pushes, regular champions league, even a final. It was exciting, we started to dream of taking it to the next step. We were getting praise from all sectors of football. Others were jealous of where we could head. It then unravelled and Levy panicked. We got Jose the "serial winner". The problem is from that point we've just slipped backwards and now we should all just be happy to accept 5th or 6th? When did you lose your desire for us to win something?
I agree with you, our current league position is probably as high as we'll finish but it doesn't mean we should be happy with that.
All the things Jose is doing now used to drive you crazy under our previous managers, like constantly tweaking our defence. People would take you far more seriously and enjoy chatting with you if you can drop the hypocrisy and get behind the team, not just the manager.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why was it an expectation at the start of the season, when they were up against Liverpool, City, Chelsea who had spent £200 million, United etc. There is no way Spurs could be guaranteed top four, and the pundits saw it that way as well.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually I don't think they will.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah the new manager will have to definitely get CL in his first 18 months, that was the demand for Jose. So why would it be any different for any new manager? You cannot have it all ways.
If finishing in the top four in his first full season is a must for Jose, then why would it be any different for any new manager, unless supporters have an agenda against Jose.
Leicester played rubbish football, and had no real pattern to their play, but they won a title. I doubt they cared a jot about stule of football.

Of course I change my opinion as the situation dictates. Most people do. I am sure the captain of the Titanic changed his opinion that his ship was unsinkable , when he saw it tilting at a 45 degree angle.
Always amuses me how it is only apparently me that ever changes his mind.

Why would a manager that has Spurs sitting in 6th and in a final be long gone. Explain yourself. I don't know any manager in British history, other than Chelsea managers be sacked for getting a team to a final and having them high in the league, then get sacked.

Spurs were sinking fast under the previous manager, form was dire. Jose has at least steadied the ship. He can then take Spurs forward again over the next two or three seasons. I look forward to it.
